Well that didn't go according to plan

We figured it would be busy on a Sunday, so we set of before 9:00am to do the climb up to the Tepozteco Pyramid.

A series of rocky steps lead you up a steep path. It gains about 352 meters (1,150') in about one km (0.62 miles)... so it really is steep.

There is a small 600 year old Aztec pyramid at the top, offering beautiful views.

Main street getting set up for market day.

Nice mural.

Tepoztlan central plaza.

We are heading up that mountain.

Little church all decorated for Palm Sunday.

Interior.

Lots of people climbing up.

Not many people our age doing the climb!

When you get close to the top there is a gate because it is an official archeological site.

Man, what a job it must have been building these steel stairs way up here.

It took us almost an hour to get to the top, and there is a guy sitting at a table selling tickets to get in... all very official, with a signboard explaining the prices. We expected to have to pay because it's a government run archeological site, so it's normal to charge a fee here. But there was no way we were paying a ridiculous 210 pesos ($16.15 CAD, $11.60 USD) per person. I actually laughed at the guy.

We noticed however that this price was only for foreign tourists. All of the Mexicans had to show their ID card and were let in for free. It turns out that it is free to get in on Sundays for locals. Monday through Saturday they pay 105 pesos. But foreign tourists always pay 210 pesos.

We've been in many other attractions around the world where tourists pay more than locals, but this one doesn't even have much to see... the small pyramid, and the view... that's it. And there's no way we were shelling out 420 pesos for that.

The pyramid.

People enjoying the view.

This is the best we could do for free!

Heading back down.

My map showed another path that lead to a viewpoint, but they had one of those yellow "do not cross" type of plastic tape barriers. We decided to go for it anyhow, but there was a park officer who stopped us half way telling us the trail was closed to prevent forest fires during dry season. So the whole hike didn't really go according to plan! Oh well... we got some exercise.

The trail was VERY busy heading back down.

Back at Igor, I watched the Blue Jays win again. They're off to a great start so far this year!

Today, we were originally planning on driving through Popocatapetl National Park, but I learned yesterday that the road though is closed on Mondays! Good thing I did some research. Anyhow, we're going to go straight to the RV Park in Cholula, a suburb of the big city of Puebla. We've been there many times before, although not since March of 2020.
