We hit the road at 10:45am to do the 140 km (87 mile) drive.
Quiet back roads with some interesting scenery.
Anybody need to buy a chair?
We ended up getting on the toll road that hooks into the main one that runs between Acapulco and Puebla. Toll roads are expensive, and not as interesting, but it would end up saving us 45 minutes of driving, so sometimes they are worth it.
Scenery along the way.
Approaching Puebla there are some new apartments for commuters.
Some road construction to deal with.
What happened to our blue sky??
Puebla has lots of new and interesting high rise buildings.
We had stopped for lunch for an hour, so made it into Trailer Park Cholula at 2:40pm. (Cholula is a suburb of Puebla.) Not bad. We've been to this campground many times in the past, and it was always one of the stops we did when we led RV caravans to Mexico. So the last time we were here was in March of 2020. Back then it was called Trailer Park Las Americas, but the original owner passed away and the children have taken it over and changed the name. Nothing else has changed though!
When we first pulled in, we thought it looked quite busy. But most of the spots are taken up with Mexican RV's that look like they are somewhat permanent.
A couple of old Airstreams look like they've been here a while.
These rigs all have Mexican plates.
We decided to park on the grass out front.
The other transient unit is from France!
This RV park is normally fairly busy because it's the best location for visiting the pyramid at Cholula and the city of Puebla. It's also a stop for any of the RV caravans that run in Mexico. But right now, there are no other Canadians or Americans are here.
Here's one thing that hasn't changed...
That's our Starlink power supply plugged in to the electrical outlet.
Poor campground electricity is typical at most Mexican campgrounds and RV parks. It's one of the reasons we decided that solar and batteries is the way to go in Mexico. Why they don't maintain it, who knows?! I always test it with an electrical meter first. In this case, the voltage is a bit high at 134 volts, but it's the outlets that are in bad shape, and that would be such a cheap fix.
Yikes.
This outlet is melted, probably from some RV'er trying to run their air conditioner.
Believe it or not, there is still power there!
The only other thing that's changed is the price. Kind of expected, since we haven't been here in six years! Now up to 400 pesos ($31 CAD, $22 USD) a night. But at least they have decent hot showers!
We actually had quite a lot of rain overnight, but have woken up to sunny blue skies. Maybe we'll have a nice view of the Popocatepetl Volcano! We're headed into town for lunch and a walk around Cholula.
Yesterday's drive.
