Ah, the joys of working on a 33 year old vehicle!
I was originally thinking of building the new countertop myself, but on Tuesday I showed it to our friend Chago and he said "I know a guy" and he made a phone call and disappeared with the old countertop.
Yesterday morning, there was a knock on our door, and it was the "guy"... holding on to our brand new countertop!
Wow... exactly what we wanted!
And made of solid wood. Total cost? 850 pesos ($65 CAD, $48 USD). For that kind of money, I'm so glad I didn't make the effort to do it myself.
We had a lunch date with Barbara and Scott... the couple we had met for dinner a week and a half ago. This time, they came out to our area and we went for tacos, then back to our place for a chat. Along the way, I picked up some stain for the countertop.
Kevin, Scott, Barbara, Ruth.
After they left, I got to work staining the countertop.
Two coats later, it's exactly the color we wanted.
Now it has to dry for 24 hours and then I can start applying the varnish. It's going to take four or five coats of varnish, but in the meantime I can start doing the floor as soon as it arrives. I ordered it from Amazon Mexico on Wednesday and it is supposed to show up after lunch today.
So I can install the floor over the weekend, and then the cabinet, and then the countertop. Still going to be a big job putting all the plumbing and wiring back together, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Perhaps we'll get off on our Veracruz trip earlier than expected... we'll see!
A little bit of color in the sky last night.
