About what I expected

So yesterday I got into tearing out Igor's floor. It's been replaced once before already... well before we have owned him.

There had been a water leak from the line running from the fresh water tank under the kitchen countertop cabinet. I repaired it when we bought Igor, but the underlying water damage was still there.

But bouncing around on Mexican roads had caused the subfloor under the cabinet to deteriorate. So it was time to do something about it.

Ripping out the old floor was the easy part...

You can see the rotted part by the base of the cabinet.

Old floor completely removed. It only took about an hour.

Where the subfloor was rotten, it falls apart like sawdust.

So now the question is... how to fix it?

I'm hoping to be able to dig out enough of the bad stuff under the cabinet frame to be able to slide a new piece of subfloor underneath it. That way I wouldn't have to actually remove the cabinets themselves, which is a massive job. These cabinets are installed like one of those interlock puzzles... assembled in sequence and it must be removed in reverse. You end up taking half the van apart in order to get the cabinets out, and of course dealing with electrical and plumbing as well.

Which is why I've put this off for so long!
