The subfloor had become rotten due to an unrepaired water leak many years ago, and in order to repair it, the kitchen countertop cabinet had to be removed.
And I thought I was going to have to remove the fridge cabinet as well, but I managed to avoid that mess! There was only one corner of the fridge cabinet that wasn't properly supported by solid wood, and I was able to build a support for it without removing it.
I'm actually now ready to buy the materials, and hopefully I can find what I need close by. There is a Home Depot in Toluca, but it's a one hour drive each way and I don't think it will be necessary. There are several small woodshops in the area so I should be able to source what I need here.
Sunset at Valle de Bravo.
The next decision is... do I build the new countertop myself, or hire someone to do it for me? I'll need to buy some tools, but the total cost to do it myself will probably be cheaper than paying someone, and I'll end up with the tools in the end.
