No, it did not survive!

I was working on the countertop cabinet when I flipped it over to reinforce some of the corner braces to make it a little stronger.

One of the end panels is covered with a sort of a mactac woodgrain and it was already partially peeling, so I peeled off the loose stuff and saw this...

Yikes!

It was tiny... only about 3/4" long.

I wasn't even sure if it was alive, or if it was just a dried up carcass. But I went upstairs to get Ruth so she could see it too. Came back down and it was in the same place. We got distracted for maybe ten seconds and the next time we looked it was gone! I poked around a little, and saw it underneath another brace. I grabbed the phone to take another photo... and in the time that took, it disappeared again!

I ended up having to remove a plastic vent and found it in there. I didn't give it another chance to escape. No, it did not survive!

We were thinking about painting it.

But I've seen various photos of other where they've painted the cabinets and I don't think I like them. And a couple of comments where the people have painted them and later regretted it.

The only problem is that I need to replace the countertop. It's got that cheap melamine particleboard, and I want to make one out of solid wood. A wood countertop might not look so good along with a wood cabinet underneath. So we're not sure.

The underside of the countertop is rotten where the sink and faucet mount to it.

Today I need to go buy the wood for the floor.

Oh, while we were in Ecuador, we went to a "town hall" lunch put on by expats Warren and Julie. They have a popular youtube channel and they filmed the discussion afterwards that we took part in.
