Heading for Mexico City!

We got Lindsey off to the airport yesterday, and have learned that she and Cameron are safely back home in cold, expensive Nova Scotia.

The original plan was to spend the night in Sherman at the Acapulco airport. But, as is typical at airport parking lots, the parking was going to cost almost as much as we paid at the trailer park the night before.

We had stopped at a brand new Chedraui super store only about 3 kms from the airport and had asked security of we could park there for the night. This was our backup plan in case the airport thing didn't work out. So after we said goodbye to Lindsey and Cameron, we headed back to the big new Chedraui.

As we sat out the afternoon, a couple from Quebec (who's English was about as bad as our French) came over  to ask if we wanted to sell our bicycles. My bike is actually a good quality one, but it's about 6 years old now and looking tired. Ruth's bike we bought in September at Walmart in the U.S. for $125 and it was already looking tired. Plus, it's junk to begin with and all the gear changing mechanisms have seized up. Never buy a cheap bicycle! Anyhow, this guy wanted to buy Ruth's bike. We made a deal for 800 pesos ($64) and he rode it away. Too funny, making a deal for a used bicycle in a parking lot in Acapulco! Strange!

I'll now be totally happy if we can buy a used bike in Mexico for the same 800 pesos, and I bet we can.

Huge new Chedraui superstore.

This store is huge, and very well stocked. Much better than the Walmart a few kms down the road, and easier parking for an RV. GPS co-ordinates are 16.77057 -99.77340.

This morning we are driving about 300 kms (186 miles) inland, up towards Mexico City. But, it's all on a beautiful (although expensive) four lane toll highway. Looking forward to a change of scenery and the cooler mountain air! The beach is nice, but after 5 weeks of it, we're ready to head for the hills!

  2. Awww I'm going to miss the beach. Is there really such a thing as too much? I guess if the temps are in the 90's all the time. Guess I'll see you in the mountains.

Glad to hear Lindsey and Cameron got home safely. We sure think Nova Scotia is gorgeous.

  3. Nice that Lindsey and Cameron are now safely home, and you are heading to new exciting places with a nice change in climate. You made a pretty good deal on the bike. After 5 weeks on the beach a break is quite nice.

  6. At last, you are going to a place I am familiar with.(D.F.). I want you to go and eat at Boca Del Rio. Here is a link... http://www.restaurantebocadelrio.com.mx/sancosme/.
This is where the locals go and the price is great.

    2. I gotta say, I love Mexico City. Be sure to ride the Metro, tour Chapultepec Park, climb The Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, and don't forget the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco. D.F. is the largest city in our hemisphere. BTW, the food is most excellent!

  12. That bike story is just too strange! I wonder what prompted him to approach you instead of buying a bike locally?
