Playa Zipolite

We stopped and got some groceries, and then some propane. We try and refill our propane tank when it gets down to about ¼ full. It’s a large tank and from full to ¼ full seems to last us about a month. That’s pretty good with the fridge running constantly on propane, and all the cooking we do.

Playa Chahue (Huatulco, day 19)

Had a good sleep parked up on the dead end street. We were parked just far enough off the road that nobody could see us down there, and as far as we know, nobody did.

Playa Bocana (Huatulco, day 18)

We were up well before 7:00am, but it was still almost 7:45am before we actually hopped on the bikes and went for a ride. Not sure why it takes us so long to get going sometimes!

Playa Tangolunda (Huatulco, day 17)

When Ruth took Whiskey out this morning, she came back with my other sandal! It had a few tooth marks in it, so it was obviously a dog or two who had walked away with them during the night before. But I’m glad to have them back.

Yearly full time living expenses

Readers Rob and Sherrie from Alberta asked about our yearly expenses while living fulltime in Sherman. We've kept track of pretty much every dime that we've spent, so I can kind of give you a breakdown.

Playa Tangolunda (Huatulco, day 16)

Ruth took Whiskey for a walk this morning as I was watching the stock market. It is sure an interesting time for gold, and there is a lot of money to be made with the junior gold stocks. It will be interesting to see how the whole U.S. monetary policy situation ends over the next few years.

We went for our morning walk along the main road that runs by the entrances to the resort hotels. They have a sidewalk on either side, so no worries about vehicles. But you had better have your eyes on the sidewalk when you’re walking!

Ruth walked down to the beach at 6:45am to see the sunrise. We are usually up before 7:00am anyhow, but today Ruth wanted to go watch the sunrise. I don’t blame her, the sunrises over the ocean are beautiful.

First thing on the agenda was to clean the fridge burner. In this kind of hot weather, the burner for our fridge runs non stop.

Up at 7:00am, after not a very good sleep. A couple of dogs barking, and a few kids playing soccer in the middle of the road in the middle of the night. I guess you get what you pay for sometimes!

Our RV'ing story

We have a lot of new readers, and not all of you know how we got into this Rv'ing thing. So for a change of pace we thought we'd tell you all the story.

Had a coasting kind of a morning…me on the internet, while Ruth and Alex took Whiskey for a walk and then sat out playing cribbage.

Our cellular internet went funny last night, and it still wasn’t working this morning. We were leaving this morning anyhow, so we decided to get up and leave right away.

Playa La Entrega (Huatulco, day 9)

Another day of doing nothing. Well, we did nothing important. Played games, went snorkeling…beach bum sort of nothing.

This morning, we went to the other beach. This is a small beach that is only accessible by boat or a walking trail. We got there about 9:00am and we were the only ones there.

We know that life is not always easy, and that sometimes tough choices have to be made. So the first decision of the day was to figure out which beach to go snorkeling at.

Got up to watch a beautiful sunrise this morning. Because we’re on the part of coast that is actually almost east and west, we get to see beautiful sunrises and sunsets from our location here.

We looked out the back window this morning to see the sunrise, and were surprised by a huge cruise ship backing into the bay. The boat was the Norwegian Star and it was on a Panama Canal cruise from Los Angeles to Tampa.

We left the public campground at about 11:00am after dumping our tanks and refilling our water supply. We didn’t have far to drive…only about 7 kms (4 miles)!

Playa Tangolunda (Huatulco, day 3)

Alex and Ruth went for a bike ride into town this morning. Whiskey and I stayed with Sherman and played on the internet until they got back.

Playa Tangolunda (Huatulco, day 2)

We are probably boring you with beach pictures, so we’ll try not to post as many. However, we are at the beach. We took a couple from our walk this morning. Aw, what the heck, we might as well show one more to you…!

Playa Tangolunda (Huatulco)

We actually ended up leaving at 7:30am. There were no cars blocking our exit, so I said goodbye to uncle Eugenio and confirmed that we didn’t owe him any money for parking. He said no, that we are friends of Mary’s and that is enough. We shook hands and said goodbye for now.

Playa Zicatela (day 5)

It’s our last day here at Playa Zicatela, and Alex and I wanted to spend it on the beach. So we got walked down there fairly early (around 10:00am) and paid the 100 pesos ($8.33) for the nice lounge chairs and umbrella.

December living expenses and income

Not a bad month! We spent a total of $1,550 for the month, and that included going to the dentist!

Playa Zicatela (day 4)

Normal day…food, walk, beach, reading, backgammon, sunshine, food, walk, reading, beach, food. And we threw a trip to the dentist in there as well.

After breakfast, we took Whiskey for a walk along the beach. As we got to the end of the beach near the rocks, a couple of guys came out of the water with snorkelling gear…and a net full of fish!

Finally had another good night’s sleep. I didn’t bother going to the doctor because the ear pain had pretty much disappeared. Still a little clogged up I think, but not enough to worry about. Had a bad headache most of the day though, and I don’t get headaches! So hopefully another good night sleep will fix things up. Ruth has been fine through all of this, and Alex has his sunburn to worry about.

Playa Zicatela

The plan for today fell into place nicely. We had a quick breakfast of cheese and mushroom empenadas, then Mary and Nataly came for a drive in Sherman. First stop was a nearby “trailer park” to use their dump station.

Puerto Escondido (day 5)

We were invited in for breakfast again this morning. But my stomach can’t handle the food they eat for breakfast. Normally for us, Ruth has a bowl of porridge in the morning, and I have a bowl of Special K, or Corn Flakes or Shreddies or something like that. Anything heavier waits for the lunch hour.

Puerto Escondido (day 4)

I didn’t sleep at all last night. Turns out that the dance that we had declined to go to was not very far away and the WAY too loud music ended about 2:00am. Then my sore throat and runny nose kept me awake for the rest of the night. This ranks right up there as one of the worst colds I have ever had.

Puerto Escondido (day 3)

Definitely a better sleep last night. Still up just after 7am though along with the roosters and the dogs. Not much to report on today, other than going into town to make some Christmas phone calls back to Canada.

Puerto Escondido (day 2)

Hardly slept at all Thursday night. There was a stupid Christmas tree with lights and one of those electronic gizmos playing Christmas music all night set up near the motorhome. It would repeat itself over and over. The music played all night long and pretty much drove me nuts. Found out in the morning that all I had to do was to get up and unplug it…at least tonight should be better. However there’s also lots of other music and dogs barking. Not the most peaceful setting, but we will stay here for a few more days to be with our friends.

Puerto Escondido

We left Playa Ventura at around 8:30am. We’re going to be heading back north along this coast in another six to eight weeks, so we will be stopping in again. But at that time we’re going to try and spend a week or so there.

Playa Ventura (day 2)

A lot of Mexicans are on holiday now, so Playa Ventura is a little busier than when we were here in February 2009. There is another family tent camping at our spot, so we are sharing the private swimming pool.

We left Diamante Trailer Park at around 9:00am. We had managed to get our propane tank filled while at the park, and of course we were able to empty our holding tanks and fill our fresh water tank. So Sherman is a happy camper!

Acapulco (day 5)

I spent the morning tidying up Sherman and doing the vacuuming, while Ruth did some baking. Chocolate chip cookies made with coconut flour, and gluten free bread!

Acapulco (day 4)

Up early and we took Whiskey for a decent walk before 9:00am. Turned the air conditioning on in Sherman, and then we walked over to the entrance to the resort next door.

Acapulco (day 3)

We didn’t waste any time this morning, and headed out before 9:00am to see if there were any other parking spots for Sherman that looked decent for a couple of nights. We walked south towards the airport.

Acapulco (day 2)

Ended up sleeping fine last night. The construction noise didn’t start again until around 9:00am. At that point, we were leaving for a walk with Whiskey. At least there is lots of space here to take Whiskey for a walk.

Acapulco

Had a peaceful night in the parking lot at the caves, and left there about 7:30am. We needed gas, although not desperately. Eventually we saw a station near the entrance to the toll road to Acapulco and put in 1,000 pesos (about $84) worth of fuel. Sure enough, this station also accepted our Visa card. We’re 4 for 4 with using our Visa card for gas in Mexico now.

Las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa

Well we made it to our destination at Las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa, but not by taking the route we had planned. I think we did 180 kms (110 miles) today, and it took us almost 7 hours.

Valle de Bravo (day 8)

Well it was our last day here, and it sure was a good one. First on the agenda was a trip into town with Santiago and his children.
