But the canyon itself was a really worthwhile stop.
We drove about 90 kms...
Through the town of Tokmok.
We tried this road to an overnight spot.
But the road was really muddy and it was another 7 kms to the spot, so we turned around.
We made it to the parking at the trailhead, and there was another UAZ Buhanka there. It was from the same rental place that we used (they have 17 of them!). This one was a woman from Netherlands and her daughter.
Setting off on the hike.
Ruth and Freya.
Need to use ropes for this part.
My turn!
Kevin, Bjorn, Freya.
Scenery along the way.
We headed up here.
More cool rock formations.
Ruth and Kevin.
Bjorn and Freya.
Lots of places to explore!
And lots of photo opportunities!
A single lone tree.
Bjorn and Freya.
Me!
Us!
Great scenery.
Freya and Ruth.
Two butterflies at the same time! Usually it's difficult to get one to sit still.
Heading back down.
We carried on to a second canyon, but saved the hike there for the next day. We found a great campsite, but there was already a tent set up nearby. We pulled in anyhow, and I went over to talk to the guy.
Vivek is a 32 year old from India, cycling his way around Kyrgyzstan. He was actually towards the end of his trip and was on his way back to Bishkek. I asked him if he minded some company and he actually said he would welcome someone to talk to and has been very lonely during his trip.
We got set up here.
And we invited Vivek over for happy hour.
Next up, Kok-Moynok Canyon.
