That was a fun evening!

I bought my Honor Magic 5 Pro phone in September 2023, so it's coming up on three years. It's still in near perfect condition, and I love it. The only problem is that the battery is starting to deteriorate. Not a lot, but enough that I notice it.

The phone is made in China and the brand has a strong presence here. So yesterday morning we walked over to a shopping mall that has a sales and service location.

I asked how much to install a new factory original battery. The price was actually really good, which was what I was hoping. Only 189 yuan ($39.50 CAD, $27.80 USD) installed. Fantastic! They said it would take two hours.

New apartments being constructed.

The guy took the phone and started inputting some numbers into his computer. Came back to say that unfortunately I have the global version that was originally made for sale in UK, and that the only factory authorized service they could do had to be done in the UK. Disappointing, but not a big deal. They did offer to install a new screen protector for free, which I took them up on. All cleaned up, and the phone looks like brand new!

However, I think I will buy the newer model when we return to Canada in September. It has an even better zoom, and Ruth's phone was cheap. She doesn't use hers as much, so the battery condition will be fine for her, and definitely an upgrade from her current phone.

This shopping mall has a big interesting grocery store...

You can leave your dog here while you are shopping.

So much interesting food.

We don't know what half of it is!

Protein!

Boneless skinless chicken breast.

Fresh fish.

Fresh crab.

We bought a precooked chicken and a premade salad to bring back to the hotel room for lunch. We had walked both ways despite the 36C (97F) temperature. About 2.5 kms each way.

Kiddie water park along the way.

Nice looking veggies for sale.

We relaxed for the afternoon in our comfortable air conditioned room. Around 7:00pm we headed out to a place called Datang Everbrite City. It's a huge pedestrian street complex designed to recreate the atmosphere of China's Tang Dynasty. Lots of illuminated light displays, live street performances, and people dressed in "Hanfu"... traditional clothing of the period.

We took the metro about 14 kms south.

People pay $50-60 to get themselves dressed up like this for photos.

There are lots of lights... and lots of people. It's a popular thing.

They have special lighting just for photographs.

It was fun to people watch.

Out of the thousands of people that we saw, we saw less than ten visible foreign tourists.

The giant wild goose pagoda was built in the year 652.

There are a lot of statues in this area.

And a lot of people!

We watched a couple of live performances.

And then at 9:00pm we went to the fountain laser and light show.

All of the attractions were totally free.

There were lots of different foods to try. This is sticky rice cake!

Yum.

Then we had some pork skewers.

They put the meat on a stick, then put the stick into this odd electric rotisserie thing.

Then sprinkle with spices.

Dinner!

A lot of people try to have their fancy photo taken with the ancient pagoda in the background.

Many pay for professional photographers... I managed to sneak some photos in!

This little girl was really cute.

That was a fun evening. Man, we sure are putting on the steps. My phone says we are averaging 20,000 steps a day over the last seven days!

Next up... the famous Terracotta Warriors!

Nice price drop on the Coleman Roadtrip 285 Stand Up Grill.

And in Canada...
