Lots of interesting architecture...
Bishkek City Hall.
State University building.
The new Moscova soviet style apartment building.
Kyrgyzstan is all about the horses.
I took this photo to show the size of the statue versus a normal person.
More detail.
Kyrgyzstan parliament building.
Huge Kyrgyzstan flag.
The guards at the base are not real... they likely were at one time.
Ministry of Agricuture.
The State History Museum.
Notice the overcast skies... we did get a little rain, but not enough to stop us.
The fountain in Ala-Too square was actually operating. Many were not.
We spotted this ferris wheel in the distance.
We're always suckers for a ferris wheel ride. And there are a lot of ferris wheels in the stan countries, although to be honest this is the first one we've seen in Kyrgyzstan. Cost was 200 SOM ($3.25 CAD, $2.30 USD) per person.
Bishkek doesn't have the most attractive skyline!
Ussie on the ferris wheel.
We passed this fancy restaurant once we got our feet back on the ground.
Then it was over to the circus building.
The Bishkek Circus used to perform here at 4:00pm every Saturday and Sunday, and we hoped to go to the show. Unfortunately it's not running right now, and there had been a temporary run of the Moscow circus here during the month of May which we obviously missed.
The inside has been recently renovated.
We stopped for lunch at an Asian restaurant where we had a delicious bowl of salmon Tom Yum soup with a side of rice, and we shared a shrimp spring roll. With a glass of mint lemonade, the bill was 1,750 SOM ($28.30 CAD, $20 USD).
We had some time to waste, so we went shopping! I needed a new pair of jeans and was surprised to find some Levi's here in my size. They are no cheaper here than they are in Canada! I paid 4,500 SOM ($73 CAD, $51.50 USD).
Fancy new Bishkek shopping mall.
Old soviet apartment building.
Wouldn't want this guys job!
Too bad this fountain wasn't operating.
Another old soviet apartment building.
Ruth wanted to get a pedicure, so after some shopping around we found a place that would take her without an appointment. It seemed to take forever and I even had a nap on their waiting room couch! After about an hour and a forty five minutes she was ready. The cost was 1,000 SOM ($16 CAD, $11.50 USD) but we didn't have enough cash and they didn't take card. I had to run to an ATM.
Then we met Bjorn and Freya for one last dinner before heading to the airport together.
