We are off to the big tamale!

Most people know that New York City is often called "the big apple". So it's only fitting that Mexico City's unofficial nickname is "the big tamale"! Here's our plan for the next two days...

We're taking the 9:00am bus this morning from Valle de Bravo to the Poniente bus terminal in the western part of the city. It's about a two hour ride.  They now have the Observatorio metro station open again after a couple of years of renovations. Apparently it re-opened on November 15th.

So we can take the metro from the bus terminal to the central area and then walk to our hotel to drop off our bags. The price of the metro has gone up though... it now costs 5 pesos ($0.38 CAD, $0.28 USD) per ride!

Then we need to go to Ikea. We want to buy the same plates and dishes that we have in Igor. Really happy with them, and they're half the price of anything else available. We had bought the same dishes when we had our motorhome Max in Europe!

The Ikea is located near Mexico City airport, and that's where we need to be by 3:00pm to meet my sister Alison, and her son Marshal. They have been on a one week vacation at a resort in Ixtapa. Alison is staying with us for a week, but Marshal has to fly back to Canada... at 2:00am tomorrow morning! So we are going to give them a quick tour of the historical district, then after dinner and some wandering around he has to head back to the airport.

We have a hotel room for two nights and so we have the full day tomorrow to see some new things in Mexico City. Then we take the bus back here on Tuesday and we've got a full six days to show Alison the sights in this area.

Yesterday, we made two trips into town! Had some things to pick up for the house... a shower curtain rod, and some kitchen items. But we didn't have room to carry everything in one trip on the ATV so we had to go back to get groceries. It sure is handy having the ATV to run into town.

 Piñatas for sale.

We stopped to have carnitas.
35 pesos ($2.65 CAD, $1.95 USD) per person for lunch!

End of another great day in Mexico!
