The rooftops of Mexico City

Monday morning we took the entire Line 8 underground Metro route from downtown Mexico City to the suburb of Iztapalapa. We were 18 stops on the subway and it cost 5 pesos ($0.38 CAD, $0.28 USD) per person.

There, we got on the relatively new (2021) "cablebus" system... the public cable car system. That line runs for 10 kms, with one free transfer point. Cost for the entire ride, including the round trip if you don't exit the system is 7 pesos ($0.54 CAD, $0.39 USD) per person.

And it wasn't even busy. There was no lineup and we got right on. We were sharing a car with a nice couple from South Africa... Lieza (sp?) and Wesley. It's their first time in Mexico and they're doing a very busy one month tour. We were able to give them lots of tips!

This type of travel sure gives you a different viewpoint on things!

There are a lot of rooftop murals to enjoy.

That's a pretty busy rooftop!

Interesting church steeple.

It really gives you some perspective on how truly huge Mexico City is.

Colorful homes.

The airplane in this park is a library!

The business district in the distance.

School roof.

That was a fun and cheap way to see parts of Mexico City that you would never see otherwise. And we enjoyed spending some time with Lieza and Wesley. I'm sure they're going to have a fantastic trip!

We parted ways, and went to find some lunch.

A big hearty bowl of pozole for lunch!

Then we took the subway back downtown and walked the main part of Reforma Blvd through the business district.

Lots of Christmas decorations up.

Roundabout fountain.

My sister Alison with her wings.

The wings are beside the famous Angel of Independence statue.

We walked by the Revolution Monument.

And I poked my camera through the gate of the main post office to get this photo.

We had some delicious birria tacos for dinner, then relaxed for the evening.

Today, we are taking the subway back to the Poniente Bus Terminal, and then the two hour bus ride back "home" to Valle de Bravo!
