But unfortunately civil unrest cancelled that trip, and we ended up doing a very last minute trip to Peru instead.
We have now booked another trip to Ecuador. This was a last minute decision... yesterday, the thought hadn't even crossed our minds!
My sister has a trip booked to Ecuador (in May, I think) and I was looking for some flight options for her. Just out of curiosity, I checked to see what it would cost from Mexico City, and coincidentally they have a great deal on a flight with Copa Airlines through Panama City on February 10th which is the same day our daughter and family fly back to Canada.
After a quick discussion, we booked it! The main reason is that at some point we have to reset our Mexican tourist visa prior to April 8th. So this is a good opportunity to do that, as well as visit a new country.
MEX to PTY to MEC.
A great deal at 5,600 pesos ($427 CAD, $311 USD) return, per person.
It arrives in Manta, which isn't ideal. We have friends in Cuenca, so maybe we'll take a bus up there to see them. Haven't made ANY plans yet though, because of course two hours ago we didn't even know we were going!
It's only for 15 days, and we arrive back in Mexico February 25th.
Speaking of flying, my sister Alison left here yesterday afternoon, took the bus to Mexico City, and then an overnight flight back to cold, cold, Calgary. She says she arrived safely, with no problems at all.
