We'll be eating huaraches for the next few days!

Well, it turns out that we stayed in our spot for another night, which is convenient. They are cutting down some large dead trees in the area, and they started on the other side and likely won't even make it to our side until Monday. We might even be able to stay where we are for the weekend, but we'll find out this morning.

Oh, we never did show you a photo of where we are parked...

It's just a guys back yard...

Igor's spot the last few days.

The guy rents parking spaces in his yard to day use visitors to the town.

We had one more hike we wanted to do. There is a mirador (viewpoint) that we wanted to get to, but it was going to be a 12 km (7.5 mile) hike with a fair bit of elevation. A lot of it is on a road, but we figured it wouldn't be very busy, and it wasn't. Then part on a rough dirt road, then returning on a steep downhill trail through the forest. We figured we would go for it.

The town of Mineral del Chico.

The dirt road was not very busy.

Starting to get a view.

We made it!

Still more uphill to get to the top.

View from the top looking down on Mineral del Chico.

Zoomed in on Mineral del Chico.

Craggy looking mountains in the distance.

This was a colorful fellow.

He wasn't very shy.

He let us get really close.

View looking up from the forest walk home.

We had only brought a snack with us for the hike so we needed a late lunch when we got back to town. We had seen a little hole in the wall place that did typical Mexican dishes... huaraches, enchiladas, quesadillas, that sort of thing.

We each ordered a huarache. Typically, a single huarache is a filling meal and costs around 80 pesos.

Well the meal comes out... and they were massive! Huge, like a single one could have fed both of us with some left over!

The photo doesn't really show the size.
I think the plate end to end had to be 18 or 20 inches!

Then we looked at the sign where it says "Huaraches Gigantes". However, it would have been nice if the girl mentioned that one was enough for two people. And, we totally admit that it was our fault for not asking the price as well... 250 pesos ($19 CAD, $13.50 USD) for one huaraches! Loaded with meat and cheese... we joked that one huaraches must have had two full chicken breasts and a pound of cheese on it. Joking, but I bet it wasn't far off.

Me, sitting with a canine friend who was happy to pick up anything that dropped on the ground!

We were stuffed, and had plenty of leftovers to take home. We'll be eating huaraches for the next few days!

An undated photo of Mineral del Chico.

I tried to match it up, but there were too many cars in the way!

The only things that look the same are the church and the roof angle of that building on the left at the bottom of the street.

This morning, we are headed into the city of Pachuca.
