Oh, I never told you about the problems with our gasoline furnace. A bit of a pain, but the fix is in progress.
These heaters have a known issue with carbon buildup at high altitude. And I knew that, however the expensive one I bought (General Components Bison 2000A Gasoline) has what is supposed to be automatic altitude compensation.
So when we were up in the mountains at 10,000' (3,048 meters) last week, everything was working fine until one day when I noticed the exhaust didn't look right. And then I noticed that there was a black soot on Igor where the exhaust is located.
The next day, the furnace went into error mode, and wouldn't fire up again. I contacted the company support people (who incidentally have been great!) and they went over thing with their engineering people who are doing a firmware adjustment to the fuel mixture. But there are two problems.
One, the firmware adjustment is in the Electronic Control Module and can't be "flashed" over the internet. Which means the unit has to be shipped to them, and shipped back to us! The second problem is that the unit has to dismantled and cleaned of the carbon buildup inside that is preventing ignition. That part I could have done myself if I had to, but it's still a fairly big job and parts are required.
They have offered to send me a clean, rebuilt unit with the new Control module already installed. So that is what we are doing. At least because I did the installation myself, it won't be a huge job to do the remove and reinstall. And then I have to ship the old one back to them. All at no cost to us, other than the labor to do the job which I can do myself. Oh well... it is what it is!
We went for a short hike yesterday afternoon.
A couple of the local dogs came with us!
It's a pretty area.
I mentioned yesterday that a Mexico City RV Club was coming here, but only four rigs showed up. However, there are a LOT of tent campers! It's not really a very large place so it's a little crowded and the parking lot is full!
Some Mexico City campers.
But everyone was well behaved and although we were expecting a noisy night last night, we slept fine so it wasn't that bad. Surprisingly, there was no loud music until all hours.
View out Igor's front window this morning.
But, I wouldn't be surprised if tonight we are all alone!
