We need to find another overnight spot

Yesterday, I booked us a hotel in the nearby city of Pachuca. We're going to leave Igor here in Mineral del Chico, and on Saturday morning we're going to take the collectivo to Pachuca, do some exploring, spend the night, do some more exploring Sunday, and return to Mineral del Chico on Sunday late afternoon.

I had just booked and paid for the non refundable hotel room when our host came to tell us we won't be able to stay here on the weekend.

Weekends are busy here, and they are also having a large tree cut down so they need the space. However if we had known that, we might have made different plans. Oh well. We went for a walk around town to see if we could find a different secure spot for Igor while we go into the city.

The first place we stopped advertised camping, but as expected it was more geared towards tent camping. And he needed the parking for the cabin visitors he has coming this weekend.

Walking into the town of Mineral del Chico.

Pastes!

These are actually pasties. As in Cornish Pasties. Yes, there is a connection between the mining area of Pachacu and the county of Cornwall, England. Back in the early 1800's, coal miners from Cornwall came to this area of Mexico. They were recruited by British investors to modernize the silver mines in this area, and many married local women and remained. There are quite a few Pachuca natives who have partly British blood. The miners brought their mining expertise, technology, and cultural traditions like the "pastie" which evolved into the local dish now known as pastes.

In fact, I even came across an interesting BBC article...

The whole town is built on steep hills.

We spoke to the local police and asked about a possible parking spot for Igor. They directed us up on a fairly large flat area with a nice view. It's actually a great spot, but we don't think it's secure enough to leave Igor while we go away.

Beautiful old door.

This shop sells bonsai trees.

Does this house look a little bit British?

We did find one fairly level secure parking area where the guy wants 250 pesos ($19 CAD, $13.50 USD) to look after Igor for Saturday night. A little pricey, but at least he will be safe.

So, not sure whether we will be moving today, or first thing in the morning. But we'll be going into Pachuca tomorrow one way or the other.

There is still one more hike we want to do in the area, so we'll try and get that done today.
