Trip in to town, and good news!

We did the 6 km (3.7 mile) walk into the town of Jilotepec yesterday morning. It was an absolutely perfect day with mostly sunshine and a high of 21C (70F).

First stop was Parque Urbano Las Sequoias... a municipal park.

The walk was okay... mostly a slight grade downhill. Not much to see along the way, but we both noticed that this area has a lot of well maintained homes... and not much trash lying around.

The local church property is spotless.

Vermillion flycatcher.

Somewhat odd, but we had to pay an entrance fee to get into the municipal park. It was only 8 pesos ($0.60 CAD, $0.45 USD) each so no big deal, we've just never encountered that for a city park.

The "pond" in the park was covered in green algae.

This odd art piece is made from a tree trunk with pieces of metal attached to it.

Quite a few statues as well.

The main church in Jilotepec.

The courtyard at the church.

There were two old trees at the entrance to the church plaza. All the limbs had been cut off, and only the tall stumps remained. They have carved the trees, and it's really well done.

Amazing.

Two guys were still working on the second one.

Jilotepec is a Pueblo Magico.

Leftover decorations from the Day of the Dead celebrations.

El Centro in Jilotepec.

We went and had a small lunch... just a quesadilla and a gordita. Lunch cost 50 pesos ($3.85 CAD, $2.75 USD)... for the two of us!

Then we picked up a few grocery items, and went looking for the bus stop. Long story short, we missed the bus by five minutes... and it only goes by once an hour! So we decided to do the 6 km (3.7 mile) walk back to the campground because we would get there about the same time as the bus.

When we were about 20 minutes from the campground we heard a voice calling from across a field. It was Raul, our host. He was at his house, and calling for us to come over. So we did.

It's a big family property where his parents still live and he built his own home on the property. His siblings have done the same thing, and of course they all have children too so there are six kids there as well.

His mother keeps a big greenhouse for house plants.

Ruth and a feathered friend.

Look at the size of this pine cone!
We were told it's from the pine trees in the mountains behind us.

This cute burro is only about 8 months old.

They have cows too.

Raul's mom offered to feed us, so we gladly took her up on that. Never ones to turn down Mexican food!

Back at Igor, I had received some good news from the support people at the place that manufactured our gasoline furnace. I had mentioned the other day that the thermostat went whacky while trying to do an update, and that the whole thing became inoperable.

They sent me instructions and a video on how to fix the problem. I had visions of needing a new thermostat and trying to get one delivered to Mexico. Fortunately, the new instructions were very clear and sure enough the display returned to normal.

The furnace then fired up exactly the way it should, and operates correctly using the bluetooth feature through my phone.

Another beautiful day today, and we are going to climb up for a view. Looks like we're staying here another night, which is just fine. We're in no rush.
