Hiking in Parque Los Peñas de Dexcani Alto just north of Mexico City

We are about 70 kms (42 miles) as the crow flies north of the center of Mexico City.

Yesterday, we went hiking in the nearby state park. Uphill all the way!

Again, it was another perfect day.

Pretty butterfly.

The park is a popular rock climbing area. Pretty quiet at 11:00am on a weekday morning though! Not many people around.

This is the type of rock wall the climbers love.

We weren't climbing the wall though! We were hiking up to a viewpoint. Still, it was pretty steep at times.

Ruth, coming up behind me.

The climbers love formations like this.

Starting to get a view.

It's been a while since we've done a decent hike. Yes, we've done a lot of walking, but an actual uphill climb where you are huffing and puffing is a little different. Plus, we started out at 8,000' altitude. We both noticed that we were a little out of shape for this kind of thing.

It was steeper than it looks in these photos.

Me, near the top.

We're getting there.

Lizard.

We made it up to the cross.

Looking east.

It's always more difficult coming back down!

Lots of yellow wildflowers.

Moving on to El Chico National Park today.

  1. Great climb. Something that would take us years to build up to that level.
Stay Safe and Enjoy the adventures.

    It's about time.

    1. It was a great hike and we really enjoyed it but realized that we haven't been active enough over that past couple of months and of course the elevation plays a big role in that too.

It definitely takes time to build up to this level of hiking when you aren't used to hiking, this is the reason that we don't ever want to stop doing this type of thing because once you stop it is hard to get going again. We want to be able to hike like this for as long as we can! :-)

    1. Thanks, we love this type of scenery and we are going to see more of it in El Chico National Park. We are really looking forward to spending more time in that area.
