Are you Kevin and Ruth?

Rainy day yesterday, but we made our way a few miles further back towards the Republic of Ireland border. We ended up parked in the fishing town of Kilkeel.

We feel bad that we haven't been able to properly explore Northern Ireland. I mean, it's really not that big of an area, but we ran out of time!

We'll just have to come back some day. I haven't shown you a map of our route for a while... here's the last week or so...

Like I said, it was a rainy wet day. Probably the worst day we've had since we arrived on the island May 8th!

Rain, rain, go away.

Scenery along the way.

The northern Irish do like to display their British heritage.

We did some grocery shopping when we reached the bigger town of Kilkeel. It was actually a busy little place! Almost had a hard time finding a parking space in town. Afterwards, we ended up at a beach parking lot on the outskirts, west of the fishing harbour.

Not busy there, because with overcast skies, rain, and a high temperature of about 15C (60F), nobody was in the mood for going to the beach!

We stayed in Max and played some backgammon and cards for the afternoon, and I had a nap,

The rain stopped for an hour or so around dinner time, so we took advantage of the break and went for a walk...

Shoreline at Kilkeel.

Lots of boats in the little harbour.

Fresh fish prices.

Busy little harbour!

Walking through town.

Yes, Kilkeel is known for it's fishing industry!

Back at Max, we had a "knock, knock, knock" on the door.

I open the door, and there's a soaking wet woman (it had been raining again) standing there.

"Are you Kevin and Ruth?", she asks.

We've had this happen numerous times around the world. I could write a whole blog post about the funny encounters we've had this way!

This time, it was Sharon, the sister of one of our long time blog readers Alison from Digby, Nova Scotia. We met Alison a few years ago when she and her husband were living in British Columbia.

Anyhow, Alison is originally from this town of Kilkeel! She contacted her sister Sharon who still lives here, and Sharon managed to find us after walking all along the shoreline from the harbour. She came by to say hello and drop off a box of baked treats. Thanks Alison and Sharon! Such a nice thought. We hope to see Alison again when we're in Nova Scotia this coming October.

We had a quiet night, and got up early again this morning to cross the border back to the Republic of Ireland.
