Dunnottar Castle and the town of Stonehaven

We have been waiting for a nice day to get to the coast and visit the beach town of Stonehaven, and we finally got one yesterday. And, Stonehaven has several fish and chips places, one of which does gluten free!

And of course we did the walk to Dunnottar Castle...

But the beach is dog friendly, so Loki and Benji had fun playing in the water.

A local man has been designing sculptures and installing them along the beach walkway. He says "I'm not an artist... I just weld pieces of metal together!"

Well, he's very good at welding pieces of metal together.

Loki jumped up into the picture just as I was taking it.

The harbor has a more sandy beach.

This is where people were out enjoying the beautiful day.

The origins of the castle date back 1,000 years, but the main ruins are from the 15th century.

The castle is open for visitors... if you pay the £13 ($24 CAD, $17.50 USD) per person entrance fee, and we didn't think there was enough worth seeing for that kind of money... we much prefer to wander castle ruins for free!

But, we enjoyed the walk and the seaside views.

The fish and chips was delicious. I don't think the photo does it justice! Cost was approximately £10 ($18.50 CAD, $13.50 USD) per person.

We had a good day!

But, the beautiful summer weather only lasted one day. Kind of ironic that today is the first day of summer, but the weather is overcast and cool compared to yesterday.
