More waterfalls and viewpoints!

I published our May expense report last night. You can check it out here.

We headed out fairly early yesterday because we wanted to beat the heat. We weren't going far... only about half an hour away to a parking spot in the forest near a trailhead that leads to a waterfall.

We weren't planning on a long hike... maybe a couple of hours or so. We ended up doing 11 kms (7 miles) and didn't make it back home until 2:00pm!

Scenery from the road to get there!

We wondered how long this path has been there.

An abandoned house beside the path.

Scenery along the way.

So we're hiking along, and part of the trail went through what looked like a private property. But there were trail markers there, so it was obviously a throughway. But there was a big dog who was not chained up, and he didn't look overly happy to see us! We ended up detouring through some brush to avoid him, but he would be blocking our planned route to return to the car. Our choice was to somehow deal with getting past him, or take the same route back that we had already done... or do a 5 km (3 mile) detour with a fairly steep uphill.

We chose the detour!

Ussie along the way.

Nice view.

Another nice view!

Me, and the view.

The trail was fairly overgrown at some points and we had to make our way through some long grass. we know from earlier hikes that there are a lot of ticks in this region. Some are fairly large and you can easily spot them on your skin, but others are tiny... no bigger than the head a pin!

Tiny ticks!

One more attraction to see.

We thought it was going to be quite old, but there was a plaque on it saying 1920.

This other building looked older.
Was it the old jail?

We've really enjoyed our time in Galicia. There are hardly any tourists, which surprised us. And so much to see and do. We never did make it up to Lugo or Santiago de Compostela. And then of course there is the north coast. Oh well... more to see another time.

Today, we move on. We're going about two hours west to the town of Molinaseca, which is along The French Way, a popular section of the Camino de Santiago pilgrims route.

    1. Yes, we really didn't mind doing the extra distance, it gave us a couple more views and thankfully most of hike back was in the shade but it was uphill most of the way. We would have gone back the way we cam but there were a number of sections with long grass and ferns and we really didn't want to go through them again and possibly get more ticks on us. Lol, we always say that we need the extra exercise anyhow!
