Max is quite happy here!

And so are we.

We really enjoyed our time in Canary Islands, and ever since we came back from there, we kind of felt like we weren't enjoying Morocco so much. The southern coastline just felt so drab.

But we had a beautiful day yesterday despite the fact that the morning was quite cloudy. It was just normal clouds though, not that depressing kind of haze that we had been experiencing last week.

And, we got out for a nice hike! Only 7 kms (4.5 miles) or so, but it was enough to give us a taste of the area and there are quite a few more walks we can do right from where we are staying.

We had a nice rainstorm overnight, and there were still a few clouds hanging around in the morning.

We walked up to the base of the mountains.

Lots of old ruins.

There had been a big earthquake in Agadir in February 1960 that killed thousands. Agadir is only about 100 kms away and we wonder if the number of ruins here are related to that event.

Beautiful views.

Mosque on a hill.

Scenery along the way.

Ruins of what we think was the old mosque.

It does remind us a little of Arizona or New Mexico.

Ruth, enjoying the view of the Ammelne Valley.

At the entrance to the hotel.

The place we are staying is a nice small hotel. They have a small motorhome area in the back. It's quiet and pleasant and you can't beat the price at 55 dirham ($7 CAD, $5.25 USD) per night including electric and WiFi.

Max is quite happy here!

So we'll probably hang out here and explore the area by foot for the next week or so. The temperature is perfect for hiking, with highs around 17C (63F). Supposed to be beautiful today, rain tomorrow, but then beautiful all next week.

We're headed out this morning for an 11 km (7 mile) hike!

    1. Some of the ruins are too badly ruined to see very much and others you would have to be super careful to go in as they don't look very stable but they sure make for some neat pictures.
