And, It was never properly furnished or outfitted for being lived in. We knew we were going to have to spend some money getting it to that point, which is one of the reasons we were able to secure such a good deal.
And because it hasn't been being used, it kind of became a bit of a storage area for the owner. A lot of "stuff" is still lying around, but we'll get it sorted out over the next few weeks. It's actually amazing how much progress we made just on the very first day!
I took a bunch of photos half way though the day just so that we can show you some before and after at some point when we get it properly set up.
The front entrance.
The little lobby area in the entrance.
All of this "stuff" will be gone eventually.
Up the stairs is the main part of the house. But off to the left is a door leading to the spare bedroom and bathroom.
More "stuff".
The bed is an air bed, but maybe it's comfortable and worth keeping. We'll see. If not, we'll have to buy a new bed for this room. The couch is half decent. There are no photos on the walls. The owner has offered to do some painting, but we'll see.
Up the stairs leads to the kitchen.
The fridge is quite new, but needed a good cleaning. The stove and oven seem to be fine.
We'll need to buy some kind of a cupboard and countertop unit for the space off to the left that you can't see in this photo.
The main bedroom. The bed is only a double, but it's very comfortable and it will do just fine.
There is one bathroom off the main bedroom, and another off the downstairs bedroom. They are tiny, but each with a shower, and perfectly serviceable. There is no actual "living room", but there is a couch in each bedroom, and enough space in the kitchen to put a table and chairs.
The main selling point is the covered outdoor patio overlooking the lake. Because the weather is always great, this is the living space.
This is where we will spend most of our time.
There will definitely be hammocks involved!
My job for the day was getting the windows cleaned.
What a big difference it made just getting that done!
(I still need to do the downstairs windows and the kitchen bay window)
The view from our patio.
It's just getting towards the end of rainy season, as you can tell from the cloudy skies in the photo above. It's still raining every day, but only for about two hours during the afternoon. We will start to get clear sunny skies every day in a couple more weeks.
This mornings job is to go out to Igor before the rain starts after lunch and get rid of some ants!

What a view!!!
ReplyDeleteTheview is fantastic, especially when there is lots of water in the lake. The view is what we love most about this house.
DeleteBeautiful photos! The view is spectacular! I wish you all the best! Warm greetings from a retired lady living in Montreal, Canada.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The view is lovely and it is what we love best about this house. I can see us spending lots of time out on the patio/balcony once we get all our work done on both Igor and on this house.
DeleteWe hope you are enjoying the nice fall weather in Montreal.
Wow, that will work quite nicely! Have a great stay.
ReplyDeleteThank you, we think so too! ☺️
DeleteWhat an incredible patio and view! When we rented a four bedroom house on the Yucatan gulf coast (far too large for us but all that we could find in a long-term rental at the time), every bedroom had a regular full-size bed. We don't sleep well enough to tolerate such a small bed for both of us (every time one person turned over, it woke the other up), so we hauled a two of the extra mattresses from extra bedrooms into the huge master bedroom and stacked them one on top of the other to form an extra bed (too hard to move an actual bed down, as the three extra rooms were all upstairs; the master was down). So, I slept on the stacked mattresses and Barry in the actual bed, which was harder and better for his back. Much improved! I'm sure you'll have the place whipped into shape in no time; the kitchen especially, since I know Ruth is such a great cook and is used to cooking in even smaller quarters in various motorhomes. Can't wait to see the progress. Good job with the window washing, Kevin; wanna come do ours!? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI actually like doing windows!
DeleteWelcome back! House looks great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Doug! Let us know when you want to come visit so we can make sure that the second bedroom and bathroom are ready for you! :-)
