Viewpoints over the Sil River Valley

We are in what is known as the Ribeira Sacra... a spectacularly beautiful wine region in the Sil, Miño, Cabe and Bibei river valleys in Galicia in the northwest corner of the Iberian peninsula in Spain.

There are many miradors... viewpoints that are made overlooking the valleys. Yesterday, we decided to drive to some of the viewpoints.

On the sides of the hills, they have built levels of grape growing terraces.

The Sil River Valley.

Growing grapes!

A picture of me, taking the picture below this one!

Grape terraces.

I include this description because it's interesting.

Steps between terraces are built into the walls.

You can see the river tour boats down below.

We will be going on one of these boats today!

We decided to go down to the docks and see how much a river tour would cost. It's actually pretty reasonable... only €9 ($14 CAD, $10.20 USD) per person. They were already sold out for yesterday's sailings, and in fact only had availability for 4:30pm today... so we are booked for a two hour cruise later this afternoon!

Me, and the view!

There was a sign pointing to a nearby cave...

Not much of a cave, really.

But the ceiling was kind of interesting.

View from the inside looking out.

Our two weeks here in the Ribeira Sacra region of Spain is quickly coming to a close. Only two more nights! I've got us booked in three different locations for our drive back to Madrid starting Sunday. Then on Wednesday next week, we fly to Edinburgh, Scotland!

    1. Yes, this is true but we saw some of these terraces were built during Roman times.
