April Expenses - Our cheapest month so far this year

We had a budget of $1,783 CAD ($1,247 USD) for the month of April. We spent more than that, but we always make our budget as a best case scenario as something to strive for. So although we spent more, it wasn't by much.

We spent $1,960 CAD ($1,420 USD), which is the lowest month we've had since April 2023... so we're pretty happy with that!

Let's see how it all breaks down... (figures are all in $CAD)...

Fuel: This is actually the category where most of the over spending happened. We simply did more driving than I figured we would, and hence used more fuel. We're also leaving Igor with just under half a tank which will be there for us to use when we return in October. We spent $404 CAD on fuel.

Toll Roads: Also higher than planned, at $39. Mostly due to my decision to take the toll roads back to Valle de Bravo on Tuesday.

Propane: Zero. But Igor's propane tank is pretty close to empty, so we'll have to fill it up as soon as we get back in October.

Groceries: Slightly higher than budgeted, at $354.

Meals out: Slightly lower than budgeted, at $175. That's actually the lowest amount we spent on meals out during the last four months.

Alcohol: Only $45 since I was a teetotaler for the month, doing dry April. Good to give your system a rest every now and then!

Miscellaneous: Higher than expected with a few unexpected medical and prescription bills. We spent $297 in this category.

Entertainment:  My mother gives us an annual gift that we spend throughout the year, so we used the last of it on our Tamul Waterfalls trip. Thanks Mom! Other than that, we spent $75 on various entrance fees.

Overnight: We spent $419 on camping fees, but this also included one night in a hotel. About what we had budgeted.

Motorhome: Total of $149, which is the u-joint we had replaced as well as the annual cost of registration and insurance that we expense on a monthly basis.

Travel: Zero. But that is about to change as we embark on our senior backpacking trip on Monday!

So, anytime we can come in under $2,000 CAD ($1,450 USD) a month, it's a good month!

However, the next four months will have some heavy travel expenses as we head overseas to Spain, Scotland, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia and returning to Canada in August.

So, we have a budget of $5,000 CAD ($3,620 USD) for the month of May. Accommodation is pricey, and so is our 10 hour flight from Mexico City to Madrid. In fact, we've already spent $2,700 CAD just on flights and accommodation!
