And... we're off!

Saturday evening we had a nice surprise.

Normally, we look forward to seeing friends Paco and Oti whenever we visit Valle de Bravo. This time, they had other plans and had told us they weren't able to make it. We would have to wait to see them when we return in October.

But they surprised us!

Kevin, Oti and Paco visiting with us and Igor.

So nice to see them again before we left!

Sunday morning, we were up fairly early because we wanted to make sure we had everything packed up and ready to go for our 12 noon bus ride to Mexico City. We had been thinking of taking the 11am bus, but decided the 12 noon bus would be better because we couldn't get into our room in Mexico City until after 3pm.

See you in October, Igor!

Paco and Oti offered to drive us to the bus stop.

I forgot that the 12 noon bus actually leaves Valle de Bravo at 12 noon... but it doesn't pick up at our stop in El Arco until 12:20pm, so we had a few extra minutes to wait. No big deal. There weren't very many seats on the bus, and we had to sit right at the very back beside the door to the washroom. Again, that was fine though.

We took the direct bus. It was two hours and ten minutes when we pulled in to Observatorio station at the west end of Mexico City. It cost 310 pesos ($21.85 CAD, $15.85 USD) each.

Because we had our carry on bags with us, we decided to get an Uber to our hotel near the airport. Besides, I had got an email from Uber saying they were having some sort of promo sale... and it turned out our forty minute ride cost only 176 pesos ($12.50 CAD, $9 USD). Good deal!

Our room at the Hotel MX Congreso. Basic, but clean and comfortable.
784 pesos ($55 CAD, $40 USD) per night.

View of Mexico City from our room.

I was looking for a place to have some dinner and came across a taco place that has been serving tacos since 1962. That's the year I was born, so they've been serving tacos for 63 years here in Mexico City. Only 15 pesos per tacito (small tacos), and we had 10 of them between us!

Walking back through the park.

Me, with Darth Vader!

So, we will be downstairs for our included breakfast right at 7am, then a fifteen minute Uber ride to the airport. Our flight is at 10:35am, and we arrive in Madrid at 5am Tuesday morning local time.

The next blog post will be coming to you direct from Madrid, Spain!
