A few photos around the village where we are staying

We woke up Monday morning to thick fog. We couldn't even see the mountain on the other side of the river valley!

Our schedule has been pretty hectic for the past while, and it was nice to just relax for the morning. It was after 11:30am by the time we hopped in the car to go find a grocery store.

By this time, the fog had lifted...

The view from our patio.

This is the house where we are staying.
We have the white section, and the host lives above us in the orange section.

It occurred to me that when I showed you the interior photos yesterday, I didn't mention the cost. We are paying €39 ($61 CAD, $44 USD) per night for a two week stay.

And this is our parking spot... there is about an 8' drop!
Gotta watch that first step when getting out of the car!

Rather than return to the fairly busy city of Ourense (pop 110,000), we decided to take the back roads to the town of Montforte de Lemos (pop 21,000) where they had a good selection of grocery stores that seemed to have better parking availability.

We managed to get everything we needed at the Lidl...

We know that we're here until June 1st, so we stocked up.
€80 ($125 CAD, $90 USD) worth of groceries.

We filled up the Audi while in Montforte. in fact, we found what was the cheapest fuel we've seen, at €1.36 ($2.14 CAD) per liter. That's about $5.78 USD per gallon. Good thing the car gets about 40 mpg!

We passed this house on the way back.
I guess man's home really is his castle!

Back at the house by 2:00pm, and I had a nap for an hour. Afterwards, we played some backgammon and then had dinner.

It's light out until after 10:00pm, so it was nice to go for a walk after dinner.

This house is being reconstructed. We've seen a couple of these odd looking wooden structures.
They are called Horreos or Galician Granaries and they store food so water and rodents can't get at it.

Lots of small plots growing grapes on very steep sections of the hill.

Looking back at the village.

Pretty foxglove flowers.

So far, all of the backroads have been paved.

Most sections are only wide enough for a single vehicle, but we drove 10 kms (6 miles) to the main highway yesterday and only encountered one car. When we were coming back, we didn't see any other vehicles. And the road in front of the house isn't very busy either... maybe one car per hour, if that!

Scenery along the way.

There is a small winery in the village.

A driveway along the way.

Looking towards the town of Os Peares.

Our village of Pombeiro.

Once again, we have woken up to fog, so there's no point in going out to enjoy the views until the fog disappears. There is a mirador (lookoff) that we want to hike up to today. About 8 kms in total.
