Back to civilization

Well, Lindsey, Cameron, and Sadie came over to the motorhome early Sunday morning... all three of them, for the first time in three or four days! Still not 100%, but by far the best they have been in a while. We think the worst is over!

And good thing, because we had some driving to do, both yesterday and today.

But first, we had to stop in and say hi and goodbye to the local Moroccan family we met. Lindsey and Cameron hadn't met them yet because it was only Sadie who was with us that day.

First, we stopped in at the old museum again.

And then to see Soumaya and her family for tea.

Soumaya walked out with us when we left so that she could be introduced to Max as well. She had never been in a motorhome before.

We wondered what it would take for Soumaya to visit Canada. Lindsey said she would look into maybe sponsoring her visit, or whatever it is that one does in that situation. Moroccans need a visa to visit Canada, and we're not sure how difficult that is to get.

We said goodbye, and hope to see her again one day.

We hit the road towards Ouarzazate.

Max hit the 25,000 km mark.

Of course that means nothing special in miles... 15,500. Not bad, considering we'll have had him for two years in June.

Scenery along the way.

We passed a lot of old villages.

This newer building is attractive.

The contours on the rocks are amazing.

It's almost like a contour map.

We stopped at the Carrefour grocery store in Ouarzazate before heading to the campground. The Carrefour stores are one of the few places where you can buy alcohol in Morocco. However, the holy month of Ramadan begins on Wednesday and all alcohol is supposed to be unavailable. It turns out that the Carrefour stopped selling it on Saturday. Something to do with the belief that it stays in your system for a few days. Apparently there is still one shop in Marrakech that will sell it to tourists if you produce your passport. We're not panicking since we plan to be in Spain soon anyhow.

This morning, Cameron seems to have made a complete recovery. Lindsey is probably 90%, but Sadie isn't quite there yet. She was the last one to get it though, so I guess that makes sense.

We're headed into the big crazy city of Marrakech today!

Lots of kids deals today. Nerf, Hasbro, and Playdoh.

And in Canada...

  1. Sorry your family has been sick; that's too bad during their vacation, and I know you hated to miss out on the camel ride. But, glad to hear that everyone is on the mend. Spain will definitely oblige you for wine, once you get there. :)

    1. Thank you Emily! It really is too bad that they weren't feeling so well but you can't do much when things like this happen, we are just happy that they are feeling better. Sadie, still has a ways to go though but she was also the last to get sick. We are a little disappointed because we were so looking forward to seeing Sadie and Cameron on the camels in the desert, we ourselves didn't mind missing it so much as we had done the trek into the desert the last time we were in Morocco, this trip was for them. We will try to make sure that they get a camel ride in Marrakech, even if it is a touristy thing to do there, not quite the same but they will still enjoy it.

We have really enjoyed our time in Morocco but we have to admit that we like Spain better and we are excited to get back there and do some more exploring and enjoy some of their delicious wine and beer! :-)
