Lunenburg (day 2)

Despite the weather (yes, it’s still raining) we had a pretty good day yesterday. We walked into Lunenburg, about 10 minutes from the campground, and went to the Bluenose II restoration.

Interesting stuff. The ship was originally built in 1963 and has undergone a few restorations already, but this one is virtually rebuilding the entire hull. It will essentially be a brand new boat when it is launched in 2012, with all of the old furnishings and fixtures reinstalled.

This boating store sells lifejackets for dogs! Nice!

Then we went to the Fisheries Museum, and because they don’t officially open until May 16, they had complimentary admission yesterday. That suited us just fine because we believe that all public museums should be free anyhow. It was an interesting museum, and a lot of it related to the number of shipwrecks that happened around Sable Island off the coast of Nova Scotia in the 1920’s.

Exploring Lunenburg Harbor

But unfortunately, we’re going to cut this trip short. The rainy cloudy overcast weather has our batteries low, and the forecast isn’t looking any better. So we’re going to head back to Kentville and then to couchsurfers Angela and Glenn where we’ll be parked up with electricity for the next three weeks or so. Ruth leaves for Ottawa next week, so Whiskey and I will be on our own for two of those weeks.

On a happier note, it’s our anniversary today…27 years married! And 3 ½ of them living in a 240 sq ft motorhome!

  7. Happy Anniversary. Our 25th will be on the 17th. We are still in the land of sun so I'm really sorry you're having such lousy weather. Wish I could send some of this sun back up to you. Both our girls have their life vests for when we take them out in the boat. They aren't real impressed with them but I think they would be less impressed if they fell in the water without them.
