Back at Cabri Regional Park

Last blog post we were in Minneapolis airport waiting for our flight to Saskatoon. The two and a half hour flight went fine, and we arrived on schedule at 9:00pm.

Had to be the fastest ever processing through Canadian immigration and customs. I think from the time we left the plane, went through immigration, picked up our bags, and made it to the lobby was maybe ten minutes! Welcome back to Canada!

I called an Uber ride, and it was there in about 3 minutes. Our Airbnb was only 4 kms (2.5 miles) from the airport, and it cost $15.91 CAD ($12 USD). We weren't about to try and use public transport at that hour. Plus, we were pretty tired and just wanted to get to bed!

Leaving Minneapolis at dusk.

You can see downtown from the airport.

We have lift off!

We flew right over downtown Minneapolis - St. Paul.

In Saskatoon, we had rented a bedroom in a small house shared with the owners. Nice young couple, but pretty expensive for what we got, at $48.55 CAD ($36.50 USD) for the night. But, it was the cheapest I could find that was close to the airport.

They had a really nice dog to enjoy though...

Miles the dog.
He was sure happy to have us there!

We had a very short visit with the owners of the house, but we were ready for bed! Slept for ten hours and got up at 8:30am. Walked over the the nearby Safeway grocery store to pick up some breakfast stuff and happened to notice the pineapples...

$3.47 CAD ($2.61 USD) for a pineapple in Saskatoon.
Quite a bit cheaper than Hawaii!

Our car rental was booked for 11:00am, and we needed some exercise so we walked the 2.5 kms (1.5 miles) to the car rental place. I had booked an economy car for $70 CAD ($52.60 USD) for 3 days. Yes, taxes included. Not bad.

But, they didn't have an economy car available so we ended up with a Chevy Impala with all the toys. Very nice car to drive, but it will cost a bit more in fuel than what I was wanting.

Then we did the drive from Saskatoon to Cabri Park. Not a very exciting drive, but we were excited about our destination!

Arriving at Cabri Regional Park.

We missed the place, and it was good to see a lot of familiar faces. We could almost be tempted to come back to work for another summer!

Ruth and Sharon.
(Thanks again for dinner and dessert!)

Jeff, Debbie, Greg, Arnie, and Benny the dog!

We were offered the use of one of the seasonal trailers from a couple who aren't here this weekend so that is where we are staying for 3 nights.

Had a few drinks around the campfire last night, and might do it again tonight! Lots of fun (and kind of odd) to be here without having to work!

The new Hot Shot Electric Grill gets good reviews. Record low price, today only.

And in Canada...

  1. Quickest customs ever, at Budapest (coming in from Philadelphia.) There are two doors; one "Something to declare" the other "Nothing to declare." "Nothing to declare" is the door to the sidewalk!

    1. Ha... that's the way it should be everywhere!

  2. Replies
    1. Not as host, we were the park managers for 4 summers.

  3. Wow, lots of traveling lately but glad you made it back safely to Cabri. Must be a change to be back in jackets after your stint in Hawaii! Enjoy what is left of your summer!

    1. Yep, there sure has been and we still have one more flight to do but at least we have a few days to catch our breath before than.

Actually the weather is beautiful. You can't see it in the picture but I had bare feet and sandals on, and almost didn't need a jacket just a long sleeved top would have been enough but yes, a nice change from the hot muggy weather in Hawaii.

  4. Welcome back to Canada! Definitely a milk run on the airports, but the money you saved was worth it! Whatcha going to do during the day over there?

    1. Thanks Karyn-Lee! Yep, we saved a lot of money doing the milk run.

We actually have almost three full days here in Saskatchewan, and yesterday we went for a hike and spent lots of time just talking with friends/campers here at the park and actually socialize with them which we didn't do much of when we were actually managing the park. It was a nice change. :-) Today we have some running around to do and then tomorrow it is back to Saskatoon to return the rental car and in the afternoon catch our flight to Ottawa.

  5. Good memories of Cabri as well as the province. We liked the rolling hills and read a few stories about farm life in the area. We especially remember the pontoon boat coming up river and the people stopping at the park. Good times!

    1. Yep, it was fun having you and Juan here at the park. It is hard to believe that that was five years ago! Saskatchewan has really grown on us and we really do love it here. If people got off of the main Trans Canada Highway when they are driving through Saskatchewan they too would see how beautiful and interesting the province really is.

  6. With all the bouncing around the world you've been doing I can't even begin to imagine the jet lag you must be experiencing. :cO

    1. Nope, no jet lag at all! We don't let it bother us because we put our minds into what the time is where we are arriving and never think about what time it is where we left from. Sometimes we need to take a small nap of a couple of hours but that is it. :-)

  7. Welcome back o expensive Canada, enjoy your time there and the familiar surroundings again.

    1. Thanks George! We are looking forward to our time visiting with friends and family. :-)

  8. Must have felt like “home sweet home”?

    1. Yep, it did and then to arrive in Ottawa it felt even more like home. :-)

We love hearing from you! Please take the time to leave a comment...
