Happy Independence Day!

First of all, Happy Independence day to all of our American friends! I am wearing my once a year t-shirt for you all today!

Yesterday, we went for a nice 16 km (10 mile) hike out to a point called Cape Split. For the most part, it's a fairly easy walk in the forest leading to a small field overlooking some very steep cliffs. It's a popular hike, and one of the busiest trails we've ever been on. Of course it was also a very nice day, and a Sunday on a long weekend so there were lots of people out and about.

The trail was a little muddy in spots

It was a little foggy at the end of the trail. Half an hour after this picture was taken, you could hardly see the rocks sticking up out of the water.

It was a nice hike, even though the trail was busy. We've done so much hiking over the last month or so that to do a 16km (10 mile) one doesn't take a lot out of us. Now that we're getting in pretty good shape for this sort of thing we have to keep it up! Use it, or lose it...as the saying goes!

  1. Looks like another nice trail, hope you can keep up the hiking, it a great way to really see the sights.

  2. Love the new header pic! and what a fantastic view... thanks for doing all the hiking for the rest of us, we can enjoy the scenery you find for us via your blog! LOL

  4. Looks like Cameron has the best ride in the house. Great pictures and glad you guys all enjoyed your hike.Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

  5. What a beautiful place to hike.

  6. The cliffs are beautiful. You guys are definitely getting in great shape. And thank you for the birthday wishes.

  7. Loved seeing these photos of the trail. When we were there, it was the windiest, rainiest day I have ever seen, even wilder than the Oregon coast. I tried to take a video (it's on the blog) but it was nearly impossible. I have to get back there. Lovely post, and thanks for the shirt!

  8. Fog is so interesting, the way is slowly creeps in and then out again. Mysterious curls of nothingness!

  9. What a beautiful place. I agree with use it or lose it. We were up to 6 mile hikes last fall and now we are tired after 3-4mi. Gotta get back on it.

  10. That's pretty cool that you keep that t-shirt to wear for us once a year. Thanks!

  11. great photos today!!nice views along the trail!!

  12. You look real nice in the T-shirt. You sure you aren't an American. Love the pictures at the top of the blog.

  13. Again, thank you everyone for your wonderful comments. Glad that everyone is enjoying the hikes through our evyes (and feet)!

Sam and Donna...Cameron enjoyed his ride, and Lindsey sid he slept real well that night.

Malone...I can believe you about the wind, even when we were there and it was a beautiful day the wind made it much cooler at the tip. Hope you are able to make it back here one day.

Janie and John...Yep, gotta keep at it.

Grace...Kevin loves to wear that T-shirt on the 4th of July.

FULL-TIMERS...I think he would like to be.
