Bachelorhood

I was looking through our pictures over the years, trying to figure out when the last time was that Ruth and I were apart for a full two weeks. Ruth will probably pipe in and answer that question real quick, and I can't recall offhand but I have a feeling it was quite a long time ago.

So this bachelorhood stuff gets old real quick. Ruth and I were married when we were 22 years old, and even after all these years and the last 3 1/2 of them living in some pretty tight quarters, not many hours have to go by before I miss her an awfully lot.

Mar 23, 1986. Seriously? With that beard  I deserved her??

Sept 22, 1990. Good, the beard is gone!

Partying in Antigua, Jan 20, 1993

Sure, there are some benefits to living alone. There is nobody to remind me that maybe I shouldn't have just one more beer. Not that I need reminding! The dirty dishes are allowed to sit in the sink until they really do need doing! The sight of them doesn't bother me.

Hmm. Running out of benefits. Can't recall any more! Can you guys think of any other benefits of being alone??

Anyhow, only a few more days to go. Ruth comes back on Thursday morning, and then we're going to head out pretty quick and take Sherman out to explore the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island! Really looking forward to that!

  1. Amazing how the time flies, and they say absence makes the heart grow founder right? When you are fulltime and in small quarters you really get to know each other and miss the interaction, Great that Ruth will be home soon!

  2. OK, what did you break? Just kidding, lol. I am missing you too. I think the last time we were apart from each other for 2 weeks was in 2003 when I was in England for 2 weeks and then you and Alex came for one more week.

Won't be too much longer! Love you.

  3. Last December Jim had to fly back to MT for a doctor's appointment and left me and the girls in AZ. He was only gone five days and it seemed like an eternity. I love having him around 24/7. So glad Ruth will be back really soon.

  6. Oh, I love all the photos. We were married that same year. I don't think we have ever been apart more than a week - usually work trips for John. I think he would say the thing he enjoys when I am not around is being able to read with no interruptions. :) Then he misses me when he has to figure out something to eat!

  7. Glad to see you guys will be together shortly, I usually take a couple 3 day trips to photograph & video trains each year and I spare Donna the boredom, she usually takes advantage of my absence to do girly things, but it is always great to be back home, you can only drink so much beer before even that gets old. Can't believe I said that.Be safe out there, Sam & Donna..
