Valle de Bravo water levels

We will arrive back in Mexico on October 8th, just over six weeks from now.

So I was thinking about the lake at Valle de Bravo, which is the place where we will be renting a house when we return. When we left there in early May, the water level was really low.

Lago Avandaro is part of the water storage system that supplies Mexico City with its water. There has been a three year drought, and last year the water level in the lake was dangerously low.

The lake level in early May.
Normally, the water level would come up around that post on the bottom left.

Typically, rainy season in Valle de Bravo runs from early June until late September. In 2024, they didn't have very much rain. But I've been keeping an eye on the rainfall so far this year, and it seems the three year drought is over!

When we left in early May, the water reservoir was at about 60% of capacity, but now it's at 77% and reports say that it could reach 95% by the end of September. That is great for the area, since much of the economy of Valle de Bravo is tourism that directly relates to the level of water in the lake.

There have been times when the water level comes right up to where that boat is parked on the left.

In fact, we looked up some photos from past years when the water level has been really high...

We're looking forward to going back and seeing the water at more "normal" levels!
