Day 15 - Sea day. Would we do another cruise?

Another day of looking out and seeing nothing but the sea. It's been much calmer than it was when we did our last three sea days in a row headed the opposite way towards Greenland.

We actually saw some sea life yesterday for the first time. We were on the elliptical machines in the gym overlooking the bow when I spotted three or four dolphins (or porpoises?) in a group off to the side.

But, not worth trying to get a photo.

Just a normal sea day yesterday, until evening came around. One of the activities was a game show called "Marriage Match". We went to watch, but Ruth signed us up as volunteers and then they do a random draw for contestants and we were called up.

The Marriage Match game show.

So, you are competing against two other couples. The idea was to choose a newlywed couple, a mid range couple, and a long time married couple as contestants. Of course they can only select from the people who volunteered, and they ended up with a couple who had been married 5 years, another 16 years, and us at 41 years.

First, the women had to put on the music headphones so they couldn't hear what was going on. Then they asked the men a variety of questions. Then the women took off the headphones and were asked the same questions. Of course the idea was to match the same answer that your spouse gave.

Then the situation was reversed and the men had to put on the headphones.

Me, with the headphones on during the Marriage Match game.

Lots of fun, but we didn't win!

Still, we did get rewarded for participating...

A bottle of bubbly and some discount coupons to the onboard jewelry store.

So, $400 worth of coupons. We will go to see the jewelry store to see what we can buy, but I don't have high hopes that we'll get much for $400!

Today is our last day of the cruise. It's been an interesting experience, and for the most part we've enjoyed it. It's been a good "holiday" away from our normal travel lifestyle.

But would we do another one?

Yes, probably. But certainly not on a regular basis. It would have to be the right combination of itinerary and price. We wouldn't do one just because the price is right, the same way we wouldn't do one just because the itinerary is right. It would have to be stopping somewhere special, and be a good deal. Or, a repositioning cruise where the destination of the cruise ship allows you to avoid having to fly.

I think we might be more interested in doing a river cruise, but from what I understand they are typically more expensive. I haven't really looked into it.

There are benefits to cruising. No meals to make and no tidying up to do. It can be a relaxing way to travel, and you have daily entertainment included, some of which is very well done. As I said yesterday, the main downside for us is the lack of time in any given country. We do much prefer our motorhome/campervan style of travel.

There likely won't be a blog post tomorrow (Saturday). We arrive in Southampton early in the morning and have to be off the ship by 9:00am. We have bus tickets booked from Southampton to London at 12:15pm, so depending on how things go there might be time to give you an update while we're waiting for the bus. Then we arrive in London's Victoria Station just after 3:00pm and take the subway to Ruth's aunt's house. We've been there several times before, so at least we know our way around.

We're in London for almost two days, then on Monday we fly to Barcelona, and on Tuesday we fly to Halifax, Canada!
