A gorgeous day in London

Really lucky to have such a great day in London. The temperature was about 25C (77F) and sunny. Just perfect, and so of course there were lots of other people enjoying a beautiful Sunday as well.

We didn't go downtown though. We just spent the day with Ruth's aunt, and did a nice long walk to Victoria Park.

This isn't Victoria Park, it's just a small park near Auntie Nice's house.

Lots of people picnicking and enjoying the sun in London Fields Park. 

Auntie Nice with a stone sheep monument known as Greengrocers and Sheep.

It was installed in 1988 and commemorates the historical use of London Fields as a grazing area for livestock. It also marks the route taken to transport animals to London's meat markets. London Fields Park has existed since the mid 1600's.

These old natural gas storage tanks are being repurposed to apartments.

Walking back, this canal boat had a live band playing on top of it.

We took Auntie Nice out for dinner to a Turkish restaurant.

This is a German Lutheran Church that was built in the 1875.

It was turned into a Presbyterian church after the war.

The stained glass is really pretty, but difficult to get a photo of!

Interesting story... the church's last pastor was a self declared Nazi. He was expelled from London in 1939, and unsubstantiated rumors say that they found a radio transmitter inside the church that was larger than the BBC's.

We start the journey back to Ottawa today! So... no idea when you'll see the next blog post, but I will likely be able to put something up while waiting for our flight in Barcelona.

We are flying on discount airline Vueling from Gatwick to Barcelona this evening, but we don't arrive Barcelona until around midnight. Then our Westjet flight to Halifax departs at 11:20am Tuesday morning. We can't justify the price to get a hotel room for six hours, so we're just going to hang out in the airport. It's never ideal, but we've done it before.
