Day 4 - Our first sea day

Sunday was our first full day at sea, and we have two more sea days ahead of us before we arrive in Greenland.

So, what did we do all day to keep busy? Well, there is no shortage of things to do. In fact, it almost seemed like there wasn't enough time in the day!

Of course we started off with breakfast. We had been going to the buffet for breakfast because it's a little quicker for the days when we're in port and we can get an earlier start. So yesterday we decided to try the sit down restaurant for breakfast. But we found that the choices weren't as varied, and really it wasn't that good. We'll stick with the buffet for breakfast.

Oh, and we had to register a complaint. The menu stated "Maple Syrup". And I was 99% sure that it would not be maple syrup, so I didn't order the pancakes. But, they should not be calling it maple syrup... they should be calling it what it is... just syrup, or table syrup. They can even call it Imitation Maple Syrup if they like! But there is only one maple syrup. And the restaurant manager agreed with me once I explained my point.

After breakfast, we found a couple of comfortable chairs and did some computer browsing and wrote and published the blog post.

Meet and greet.

At 10:15am we attended a meet and greet with some of the senior officers. The food and beverage manager, the customer service manager, and the marketing manager were there.

At 11:00am we did an hour workout in the very well equipped gym. Oh, and besides this daily workout, we also decided that we are not going to use any of the elevators. When there are 17 deck levels, that's a lot of stair exercise throughout the day!

We went to the buffet for lunch. We were just mentioning this morning how it would definitely be easy for someone to gain weight on a cruise. Even we notice that we have to be careful not to eat too much, and so we purposely just have a plate of salad for lunch.

After lunch, we attended a quiz game...

It was fun, but we didn't do so well!

We got 12/20 and the winners got 19/20. The average seemed to be about 19/20. The one most people got wrong? Number 17... What province in Canada is the only officially bilingual province?

Back to the room for a nap.

The ship was rocking quite a bit as we headed northwest to avoid the storm, but the sea was still pretty rough. (Not as rough as it is while I type this!). We did go to the upper decks to watch things sloshing around in the swimming pools and I took a video, but the internet would take too long to upload it.

Sunday evening was our first "formal" night at dinner. As we expected, pretty much anything goes, although the majority of people made an effort, as did we. Not as much effort as those in tuxedos and evening gowns, but it's as good as it gets for us!

Dressed up for dinner.

This time, we were seated with an older Australian couple, and a couple about our age from Hong Kong. Lots of fun dinner conversation!

Yes, I remembered a pic of the menu this time!

The crab cake appetizer was really good.

We both had the duck a l'orange.

After dinner we went and got our coats and then went for a walk around the promenade deck to see the waves crashing. (For perspective, this morning they have closed the promenade deck!)

Crashing through the waves!

Last night, the wind was 20 mph. This morning it is 38 mph, but it could be heading towards 50 mph.

The wake from the back of the boat.

After that, we attended the yes/no game show where contestants have to take part in a three minute conversation without using the words yes or no. The winner was a ten year old girl!

The evening show was another one woman show, this time a singer doing a tribute to Whitney Houston.

By the end of the show, it was 10:30pm and we were ready for bed!

Somewhere in there, we also got a load of laundry done. $3 USD to wash, and $3 USD to dry.
