Got the new laptops set up!

First thing I did Tuesday morning was walk over to a computer supply store in Hirtshals.

Now, Hirtshals isn't a very big place, with a population of about 5,500 people so I wasn't expecting very much from a computer store located there. But I was pleasantly surprised and the guy who was running the place knew exactly what I was talking about, and he even had what I needed.

When we first got Max set up in June of last year, I had a hard time finding the inverter that I wanted. (We use an inverter to turn Max's battery power into AC electricity to charge the laptops). I ended up buying a unit that was larger than what we needed, and then it went on the fritz while we were in Turkiye. So we ended up using an emergency backup one that I had, but it is small and only has a North American outlet.

Both of our new laptops of course have European style plugs, and we didn't have a proper adapter to use with the little inverter.

The guy didn't have an adapter either, but I was surprised that he had an inverter, and it was exactly the model I had been looking for in June of last year. So I bit the bullet and bought it.

This will do the trick!

And the price was not bad either considering where we were, at 349 dkr ($61 CAD, $48 USD).

Then we went inside the Hirtshals library to use their fast free WiFi to get the new laptops set up. Really impressed so far... Ruth's even has facial recognition when she opens it up... no more logging in. And mine has a biometric fingerprint sensor to log in with.

But it took almost three hours to get them set up the way we wanted them. Of course there were a lot of updates that had to be done, and then transferring files from the old laptops to the new ones. We're still not totally done that part yet.

Surprisingly, there wasn't a lot of "bloatware"... 3rd party software that is preloaded onto a new laptop. But I did remove a few files that I knew we would never need or use.

It was after lunch by the time we finally got on the road. We have some driving to do over the next few days as we want to be in Dulmen, Germany by Monday or Tuesday next week. And in fact, we want to get into Germany simply because it's cheaper that Denmark!

Although, it was kind of funny... we stopped into a grocery store here in Denmark and noticed right away that it was cheaper than Norway.

And the scenery is more boring than Norway!

But at least there is blue sky and sunshine with a high of about 21C (71F).

We took the main highway.

Just to put some distance in, we took the main highway. Max had his cruise control on for about an hour. It sure was a dull drive. No more of that! We'd rather take the backroads even if it takes us a little longer to get somewhere.

And speaking of that, we better get going. No idea how far we'll make it today.

Nice price drop on this Coleman Self Inflating Sleeping Pad.

And in Canada...

  1. Upvote for back roads. You've seen one interstate you've seen 'em all.

    1. Interstates/motorways are great if you are in a rush and need to get from point A to point B quickly but otherwise we just have no use for them. The backroads are just so much more interesting.

  2. Because of our CPAPs we need a Pure Sine Wave Inverter. Being as if you are plugged into the pole they are kind to electronics.
I dream of the day we downsize to a smaller unit and take the backroads.
Be Safe and Enjoy the change of scenery.

    It's about time.

    1. Other than our laptops, we really don't have anything else to plug in. Our last inverter was pure sine wave and it crapped out on us, just bad luck I guess.

The only thing stopping you from downsizing in making the decision to do it!

  3. Yay, so glad your laptops are up and running! One more thing checked off the list.

    1. They are both working great and the only thing that will take a little getting used to, is that some of the punctuation symbols are in different spots and we have to search for them but other than that we are totally happy with the laptops. :-)

  4. Glad the new laptops are working ok. Mine too has the fingerprint sensor, so easy to log in. I also like the way you can easily have split screens to use on busy projects. Cheers

    1. We are glad that you are enjoying your new laptop as well. We think that we made the right choice in buying them now rather than waiting until we got to Canada, especially because you can't get the exact same models there and we really do like both of these models. My facial recognition is easy too for logging on! :-)
