Getting ready to go

Apparently some people are having problems getting their email notifications from this blog. A couple of months ago, Google dropped that service from this platform, so I had to sign up to another provider. I chose follow.it and if you were previously signed up to receive email notifications, then that should have continued because I imported all the email addresses from the old program.

If you're not receiving them, all I can suggest is to go to the follow.it website and login using the email address you signed up for and double check your settings.

Also, we have changed commenting so that we have to approve the comments before they are posted. This means that you can still leave a comment as before, but the comment won't be visible until we approve it. So don't worry... your comment will still go through, just not immediately.

Yesterday we made our way back to our RV dealer where we spoke to the head service technician David about doing some work to Max while we're gone. It's interesting how they do things here. I mean, it's a big busy dealership... one of the largest in Germany. And yet we don't seem to have to go through a service advisor to get the work done. We go and speak directly with the technician who will be doing the work. It seems like a better system because there is less likelihood of communication problems, and the technician can ask you questions directly about the problems.

We've decided not to get the roller door reinstalled. We're happy without the door being there, and it's a huge job to get it back in there. We can't see it affecting resale because if you didn't know it was ever there, you wouldn't miss it.

Other things that have crept up over the last six weeks... our refrigerator is acting up. The error lights begin to flash randomly for no reason even though the fridge is still operating perfectly. So there's some kind of electronic problem. And one of the strings on the blind on the big skylight broke. And our side entrance door needs some adjustment. Minor stuff, but at least we'll be able to get that all done while we're in Canada.

Oh, and also the refillable propane system. David told us that despite the fact that filling them is technically illegal in Germany, they sell and install lots of these systems and he says that people don't have any problem self filling them here. He has not yet emailed me the price, but I'm pretty confident they will be competitive. He says we can go with the heavier and cheaper steel tanks because we don't have a weight issue.

We both need new footwear! Our Oboz hiking boots will be two years old in October and they've been through a lot! So they've lasted almost two years. And it's only the sole that is wearing thin... the upper structure of both boots is still in really good condition. Far better than the last pair of Merrell's that we had. We would buy them again, but I'm leaning towards trying the Salomon brand. We'll see. We both also need new sandals. And the cheap shoes that I bought in Turkey are also done. They were junk to begin with so I'm kind of surprised they lasted this long. We'll have time to do some shopping while in Canada.

We were up early and drove into Netherlands this morning. We are sitting in the parking lot of the huge Obelink camping gear store and will walk the 3 kms into Winterswijk for our 11am PCR test appointment. Then this afternoon back to Dulmen where we will spend the night in town. Then tomorrow we drop off Max and take the train to Dusseldorf airport where we have a hotel booked for the night. Then Friday fly to Canada.

And in Canada...

  1. I know you will miss Max and be chomping at the bit to get back to your European travels, but hopefully your visit will be enjoyable and productive and you'll be back before you know it! Safe travels home!

    1. Yes, we will definitely miss Max but we are so looking forward to seeing our family again and spending time with them and our friends. We are pretty sure that the time will fly by fast although we know we are going to be pretty busy, especially for the first week or two with my dad's house.

Take care and enjoy your travels, it looks like you are having a wonderful time.

  2. Have save travels and enjoy your homeland. It is probably very nice there. We are enjoying the heat in BC. Not the forest fires though, pretty bad.
    Stay healthy.

    1. Thank you Angi! I am sure we will enjoy our time back home and seeing our family, we certainly have missed them. It looks like it is going to be a bit hot today but should cool down a little after that. It sounds like we should be having nice comfortable temperatures.

Sorry for all the forest fires that you guys are having out there in B.C., I hope that you get some much need rain soon.

  3. I just realized when I saw this post (and two more) in my news reader that I stopped getting the daily email notifications of new posts also. Since I have changed nothing on my end, I can only presume that follow.it is having issues. I may or may not bother looking into it, as I can always get the posts by going into my news reader. The daily emails were handy, though. Best of luck with your travels and footwear quest!

    1. Kevin agrees, he thinks the problem is with follow.it as well, although we said he is getting his notices.

Thanks Emily, the travels we well, under the circumstances it was better than we thought it was going to be. :-)

  4. I did exactly what you said to do and went to "follow it" and went through all the procedures, got my email to verify and was told that I was already following. Maybe one of these days.

    1. We just don't know what to say then, it must be a glitch in the system with follow.it, just like there was a glitch in the system with our header picture. It took ages for them to correct it but we finally got it back so hopefully all of a sudden you will get your email notifications back.
