Booked yet another flight ticket!

A nice spring day yesterday with sunshine and a high of about 18C (64F). So, better to get some work done outdoors.

We're staying here at Ruth's dad's house, but her father doesn't live here anymore. He's at a senior's home in town where his meals are made for him and he gets some personal care. But, just because nobody is living in the house doesn't mean that things don't have to get done.

Ruth's sister lives near Toronto, but her brother is here in town. So her brother has power of attorney and gets stuck with doing most of the day to day things involved with her dad since her dad's decision making isn't the most realistic at times.

So when we come to town a couple of times per year, we like to do what we can to help out with things.

The house needed a good vacuum and dusting, so Ruth set about doing that. I got myself outside to look after his car. It's not worth a lot of money, but it's been just sitting in the carport for the last year or so and it was starting to look like it!

So I got out the power washer and went to work.

Me, cleaning things up!

Eventually, it's going to have to be sold. So I gave it a good cleanup inside and out so that not much will have to be done later. It should have been sold last year, but like I said, her dad's decision making isn't the best and he's still hoping to be driving again which of course is never going to happen. Hopefully it will be gone this year.

And then of course the house needs a lot of work as well, but some of it is things that will have to be contracted out. If his situation hasn't changed by the time we come back in September I will tackle some of the jobs myself since we'll be here for the better part of a month and I'll need something to keep me busy.

Only one small patch of snow remaining in the backyard.

Oh, and speaking of the fall... we usually don't plan this far in advance, but I booked our return flight to Austin. Just because the price was decent and it's a good route. A little more expensive than what we paid to come up here, but on November 5th we will fly back to Austin from Ottawa for $197 CAD ($150 USD) each. We had paid $169 CAD each to get up here. But, the flight only has the one stop in Philadelphia, so it's a better route.

So, the only flight I have left to book is our flight from Calgary (or Los Angeles) back to Ottawa in mid to late August.

And that leaves us with about a 3 to 4 week period in October when we will find a cheap flight somewhere to take a "holiday" before going back to the motorhome in Texas.

It's another nice day so far, but supposed to rain later this afternoon. Better get outside and get something done!

  1. Love that you help out to take of dad's car and home while he is away. It's so sad to see things getting old and dusty from lack of maintenance. The house probably needs spring cleaning...a deep clean while it's empty. Plant some flowers to spruce it up for curb appeal.

    1. We certainly try to do our best to help out, it isn't a lot but at least we are doing what we can.

It is getting a pretty good clean, I cleared all the old food out when we were here last fall so that helped a lot.

Can't plant any flowers at the moment as it is not warm enough and there is still the chance of frost.
