First thing we saw was Mexico's national bird

We had found an old dirt road that went from here at Villa Corona all the way to the town of Estipac 10kms away.

So yesterday morning we set out at 8:00am with our hiking partners Bob and Denise. It sure is nice to have some people in the group who are avid hikers like ourselves!

First thing we saw was Mexico's national bird...

A crested caracara.

There he goes!

A pretty butterfly.

Growing some tequila!
The blue agave is what they produce tequila from.

A great road for a hike!

Scenery along the way.

Mexico's other national bird... the rooster!

More scenery.

We made it to Estipac!

Making good time, we did the 10 kms in just under 2 hours.

We are in sugar cane country!

Estipac has a nice church.

Very quiet town.. hardly anybody around!

Big statue at the far entrance to town.

We wandered around a bit and had a snack in the shade in the central plaza. Then we headed back along the same route.

We passed by the well maintained ranch.

A mom with her puppy!

Hey, there's two puppies!

No... there's three puppies!

We made it back to the park by lunchtime... we had done 20.7 kms (12.8 miles) and we had been gone four and a half hours. Including rest time, that's a pretty good pace.

Had a nap in the afternoon, then at happy hour with the group we played a game of LCR... Ruth won the pot, a whole 39 pesos ($2.00 USD, $2.75 CAD). This is a big gambling group!

And in Canada...

  1. Glad to read that the weather cooperated for your hike. Beautiful Dogs, surprised that they are running free. Someone could easily snatch them.
Be Safe and Enjoy your next adventure.

    It's about time.

    1. The weather has been cooperating all winter, nice blue skies every day and only three nights of rain throughout our almost four months of travel here, that's one reason that we keep coming back to Mexico over the winter. :-)

The dogs belonged to the ranch that we were standing in front of, they never ventured much past the gate, trust us they are well cared and watched over, nobody would be trying to snatch them.

  2. Looks like a wonderful day. Great pictures along the way. Nothing like a nap after some long exercise.

    1. It was a great day as usual, don't think we have had a bad one yet. :-)

      Kevin loves his nap!

  3. That looks like a great mountain bike road! Too bad no McDs in Estipac 🤣

    1. Yes, we actually mentioned that it would be a great road for biking on. No traffic passed by us the whole stretch of that dirt road. There may not be a McDonald's in Estipac but we could pretty much guarantee you, that you could get some awesome tacos there and that would be way better than McDonald's any day!

    2. Mmmm awesome tacos! 😋

  4. We haven't played LCR for a long time. I remember gambling away all of my laundry money playing that. Love the dogs!!

    1. LCR is a fun game when you have a big group of people. Everyone in the group enjoys a game every so often at happy hour. :-)

  5. Did not know about the Crested Caracara being the national bird of Mexico! I saw one here not too long ago, fitting.

    1. It is funny because the Crested Caracara is the national bird of Mexico but the bird on their flag is the Golden Eagle!

They are quite abundant in Texas and there are some in Florida but they don't normally go further north than that, although there has been the occasional sightings further north, even in Michigan!

We love hearing from you! Please take the time to leave a comment...
