Then we drove over to the storage place. This is the old Oaxaca Campground that we stayed at several times in the past.
The owners Kate and Del closed it up during Covid, and found that they had a new business opportunity doing vehicle storage. Mostly for the many European RV'ers who end up using Oaxaca City as a base to fly back and forth from.
This is where Igor will sit for the next six months or so.
Igor's brother is here too! Another Airstream B190, but this one is newer and has been turned into a 4x4.
Most normal people would take a taxi from the storage place into the city. But we're not normal, and we took the local bus! Along with our full backpacks and a duffle bag we had bought the other day. Then we walked to the hotel.
This is the place.
Not bad, for 580 pesos ($45 CAD, $33 USD).
It's only about 1.5 kms from the central plaza.
No air conditioning though, and it was too hot even with the fans they supply.
We walked downtown.
Pretty street decorations.
The Oaxaca Theater.
The Oaxaca Cathedral.
Balloons anyone?
Happy hour in the plaza.
With music.
Ussie.
There is a wedding going on inside.
Ruth, making friends with a street dog.
The wedding celebration is about to begin.
I took a video for you. These people go all out, I can't imagine what it must have cost. Even fireworks!
Afterwards we went to a popular taco stand in the park.
Tacos in the park!
We're off to the bus station. Our bus leaves at 8:00am and arrives in Mexico City at 3:00pm. Then a subway ride, and another two hour bus ride to Valle de Bravo. Home this evening!

That was a big wedding and your taco's looked good.
ReplyDeleteHope your bus trip has comfortable seats.
Sue
It certainly was and there was another big one just before it. It is quite common to have these weddings and celebrations at this church in Oaxaca City and then after they paraded down the pedestrain street afterwards like in the pictures of the first wedding that Kevi took as they walked down the street.
DeleteSurprisingly enough the bus trip felt like it went quite quickly and overall it was pretty comfortable.
The main Plaza is great in the evenings sitting around having a beer or coffee. Music, people, excitement and most of all it costs nothing.
ReplyDeleteIt is a nice spot to sit and have a drink and we spoiled ourselves by doing just that. There is always so much going on in the late afternoon evening. We love people watching at the main plazas in just about any city.
DeleteThe downtown looked absolutely gorgeous, so colorful! But your hotel room looked very dark! Was there even a window? One thing about lighting in Mexico, we noticed that a lot of traditional spots were either way too dark or had blinding "cool white" (aka hospital operating room level) lights, usually just a center fixture in the ceiling. Horrible for reading! Glad you weren't there for long. Hope you had a pleasant trip home!
ReplyDeleteThe downtown area is lovely here in Oaxaca City, I think you would have liked visiting here.
DeleteThere was a window in the room but it looked out into the open courtyard below and more rooms directly across. The bed and pillows were comfortable but it was way too hot in there even with two fans running. I think there were only two lights in the room and none by the bed. Thankfully as you say it was only for one night, we could not have slept there if we had to stay a second night.
