What's the plan for Japan?

We were originally going to fly back to Mexico City from China. But there's only one direct flight per week, and it's ridiculously expensive. So we decided we could hop, skip, and jump our way back for much less money.

And so we found flights from Hong Kong to Tokyo to Vancouver to Mexico City for almost half the price of the direct one.

The other bonus from this new plan is that we get to visit Japan! However the financial benefit of the reduced flight prices quickly disappears because Japan is not a cheap country to visit. Especially when we are going to be there right in the middle of high season.

Mt. Fuji, Japan.

The ideal way to travel Japan would be with an RV. Yes, rental RV's are available, but we're only there for eight nights. A future trip would definitely involve an RV!

We arrive at Tokyo's Narita Airport, which is located quite a distance outside the city. We're going to take a train to the western part of the city at Shinjuku where we are going to stay in a hotel near the "entertainment" district! I think it's sort of the red light district, but not that bad. It turns out that there are some nice hotels in that area. I found us a deal at $116 for the night which is very cheap for Tokyo.

Because we only have a week, we're not going to rush around exploring. It looks like the area 150 kms (90 miles) west of Tokyo near Mt. Fuji looks like there's a lot to keep us busy for a week, with lots of hiking opportunities. So I've booked us an AirBnb in a small city called Kofu. Total cost for 7 nights is $635 CAD ($462 USD), which again is quite reasonable but it took a lot of time to find a suitable place for that kind of money.

And then back to Tokyo for July 22nd when we fly to Vancouver. We're only one night in Vancouver, and then onward to Mexico City.

So with that, our trip planning for the next two months is almost complete. Still a couple of trains to book, but that's it.

Nice deal on this popular Traeger Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker.
