Fernando had been away on a business trip to Bangladesh, so that was really interesting talking to him about that.
Yessie made tostados for lunch...
They were delicious!
I finished all three of mine, but I was stuffed. Ruth almost finished hers, and of course she was stuffed too! Tostados are made on a crunchy corn tortilla, with refried beans, chicken, lettuce, and thick cream. Of course you could put salsa as well, but Jessie had already included lots of spice!
We mentioned that Ruth needs new walking shoes and that it's difficult to find good quality ones here in Valle. They are either very poor quality knockoffs, or really expensive brand names. Typically the brand name sneakers are between 1,100 to 1,500 pesos.
But they told us about a place that sells used sneakers, and they said they are in great condition and a large selection. So we stopped in there yesterday.
They had a great selection of gently used sneakers, priced between 400 and 900 pesos.
We have no idea where they get them. You can tell they are used, but very little. The pair Ruth ended up with are Mizuno Wave Legacy. They sell new for about 1,700 pesos ($135 CAD, $99 USD) on Amazon Mexico. Ruth paid 600 pesos ($47 CAD, $35 USD). They are like new except for a little wear on the inside of the back of one heel.
Good deal! She says they are super comfy.
We've been spending a lot of money this week. Why? Mainly because we don't have Igor here and a lot of normal household items that we use on a day to day basis were left with Igor and didn't come back! So we've had to stock up on a few one time items. And of course the fridge and cupboards were bare, so we needed two weeks worth of supplies.
Also, we've been getting ready for our big "round the world" trip! We leave on Sunday the 17th. Lots of planning involved. Little things like, how are we going to keep our laptops charged when in the middle of nowhere? Apparently the camper van we're renting in Kyrgyzstan comes with lots of USB ports, but no inverter. So I've ordered us a little mini one so that we can charge laptops while driving.
And, we're still planning. We'll be meeting with friends Bjorn and Freya in Kyrgyzstan, but they arrive two weeks after us and we don't want to retrace our steps too much, and of course we want to see some new things together as well. Also planning more for our three weeks in China afterwards. It's a big country, and this may be the only time we go to China, so we have to pick and choose.
Anyhow, lots to keep us busy here at the lake house for the next ten days.
