Xalapa is the capital of the state of Veracruz. Population is about 550,000 people.
Of course we did it the Kevin and Ruth way... walking, all the way from the Walmart. It's about 3.5 kms each way, plus the wandering around that we did while in the center.
We popped into this little church along the way. The exterior was very plain, but the inside was pretty.
This building could use a freshen up!
We were looking for a view. So we made our way into the Municipal Palace opposite the beautiful central park. Up to the third floor, where there was a door leading out onto the roof. Nothing saying we couldn't go out there, so we did!
The Municipal Palace.
On the roof of the Municipal Palace! Too funny.
View of the park across the road.
View of Xalapa.
You can see by the photo above that it wasn't the nicest day. Spitting with the occasional raindrop, and the high temperature was a cool 20C. We should enjoy it though, because we will be baking on the coast in a couple of days!
Every town in Mexico has a giant letters sign.
The cathedral. The interior was nothing special.
Nice mural.
There is a lake below the downtown area with a nice walking path around it.
Nice mural on the back of this house.
We liked how they used the corner of the house as the pole for the famous Veracruz attraction, Los Voladores de Papantla (The Papantla Flyers).
Out for a walk around the lake.
Beautiful jacardanda tree in bloom.
Funny coffee shop.
Another park.
They have a lot of these park benches... but they aren't very comfortable!
Back at Igor, I had a nap and watched the Blue Jays win again... that's three wins in a row now. They were due after a bad start to the season.
Today, we are moving on. No idea where we will end up tonight, but we are headed towards the big port city of Veracruz.
