Even I went for a swim!

The last time we were in the state of Oaxaca was March 2020 just before Covid began. So six years ago.

We headed out of Veracruz city and onto the toll road. We took the toll highway to get out of the city and then a free road heading south into the mountains. But you actually don't begin gaining any altitude to speak of just yet.

And it was hot!

Yikes!

That's warm. There's a reason we're heading into the mountains. Hopefully we can get high enough for some relief.

But not yet. We drove about three hours to a natural spring balneario (swimming area) where I had read they have a good area for parking an RV.

Three lanes wide, but no lines on the road at all.

Welcome to the state of Oaxaca!

I would get right into the river right about now.

We pulled into the Zuzul Balneario in the little town of Vega del Sol and paid 30 pesos ($2.35 CAD, $1.75 USD) per person entrance fee. I asked about staying overnight and was told to go ahead! It looked quite busy from the entrance, but he said to drive on through and there was lots of space.

And he was right... this is all parking!

It obviously gets quite busy. We parked far away from the other vehicles.

And found a spot in the shade of a big tree.

But the water looked inviting... even to me.

It's a natural spring... and the water is cold! But I even surprised myself and got right in. It felt sooooo refreshing. I normally don't like cold water, but it was just so hot and I was tired of sweating.

You can see where the water is a darker color of blue. That's the source of the spring.

Ruth bought herself a nice pina colada with a healthy dose of rum... for 40 pesos ($3.15 CAD, $2.30 USD)!

My view while watching the Blue Jays game.

But, while this is a nice spot, it's just too hot. It was still 28C (82F) inside the motorhome when we woke up this morning. And that's because even though we went inland quite a bit, we really didn't gain any altitude yet. We're still pretty much at sea level!

But, we will gain a bunch of altitude over the next hour's drive this morning... so we are headed up higher to where we'll hopefully get some fresher air!

Yesterday's drive 193 kms (120 miles).
