Arrived at Chimulco Water Park

On Saturday we walked into the town of Valle de Juarez and got some errands done. I was able to pay our home internet bill at the local Oxxo store, then we stopped into a hairstylist for Ruth to get a haircut.

Then we went back into town in the evening and had shrimp for dinner!

Ruth, at the decorated bandstand in town.

Getting a haircut.
170 pesos ($13 CAD, $9.50 USD) for haircut and eyebrows.

We went for dinner at Chema's El Retiro restaurant. This is the same guy who owns the campground. We've been there for dinner many times over the years because they make the best garlic shrimp!

The little chihuahua in the restaurant jumped right up onto Ruth's lap!

Garlic shrimp!
170 pesos (($13 CAD, $9.50 USD).

On Sunday, we had made plans to have breakfast with Barb and Sal. We went to a popular place that does Barbacoa de Borrego (lamb, cooked in an earth oven).

Breakfast with Barb and Sal.

Said goodbye to them afterwards, and we got Igor all packed up and ready to go. But first, a stop to say hi to our dog Whiskey. Whiskey passed away while we were in Mexico way back in 2011. We buried her here, and planted a bottle brush tree to mark the spot. The tree has done really well, but they've now built a fence over the wall and we couldn't access it to get any closer.

You can see Whiskey's tree with the pink flowers.

Traffic was pretty heavy Sunday around lunchtime.

Traffic always slows down through the town of San Luis Soyatlan on the south shore of Lake Chapala.

Agave plants for the making of tequila.

There are a lot of greenhouses in this area.

It was about a two hour drive to do the 116 kms (72 miles) to Chimulco Water Park at Villa Corona. We've been here many times in the past, but not since March 2019. The price is now up to 390 pesos ($30 CAD, $22 USD) per night with full hookups. But this is still pretty good considering it includes access to the water park.

Igor and Ruth at Chimulco Trailer Park.

The trailer park is actually busier than I expected. Quite a few rigs with plates from British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec. Maybe 12 rigs here in total. But it's a large park with maybe 50 sites.

We went and wandered around the water park.

Considering it was a Sunday, it wasn't really very busy.

The bucket dump is always fun to watch.

Birds in the nearby lake.

The water level is surprisingly low here.

The friendly park dogs took to us right away.

We'll relax here for the day, and even go for a swim! The temperature should be about 28C (82F) and the water is thermal so it's nice and warm to begin with!

Great deal on this Stanley Insulated Mug.

And in Canada...

  1. Nice! Lucky you getting to swim. Your site looks nice, and that's a decent price for full hookups. The shrimp meal looked delicious.

    1. We ended up not swimming. The day we arrived was in the afternoon and the pools were pretty busy and the water already had a greenish tinge to it from use over the day and yesterday morning we just weren't in the mood and they only had one big pool open and by afternoon it was busy and also greenish in color. We kept ourselves busy during the day though so we were ok with it.

The site is good but like anything in Mexico it isn't in the best shape, I spent a bit of time trying to clear debris and weeds off our little patio, the electric is basic but we are ok with that, the sewer holes are almost hidden by the weeds, again we don't need to use them. We did have hot water in the showers though.

The shrimp is always good at that restaurant in town and so is the price for it.
