Edinburgh day 1

Our accommodation is located about 8 kms (5 miles) SW of the center of the city. It's a newer three bedroom three bathroom townhouse. The owner is a single woman about 35, and there is a flatmate who is rarely seen, and when she is here she spends most of her time in her room. And they rent out the third bedroom on Airbnb, which is of course our room. The room itself is tiny, but we have full use of the kitchen and living room so it's totally fine. And the bed is comfy!

On Thursday, we went for a 10 km (6 mile) walk around the area.

We set out for the Colinton Dells... a popular walking area by the river.

Part of the trail goes through an old railway tunnel that has now been decorated and painted. It's really well done, and fortunately the graffiti criminals respect that.

Colinton Tunnel.

We are in Scotland!

Really well done!

From there, we went over to find a castle. We had no idea what kind of castle it was, and didn't do any research. Only that it was marked on our map as a castle.

Typical residential street.

An old Morris Minor Wagon. Mid 60's maybe?
Ruth's uncle used to have one of these many years ago.

This was what remained of the castle we found!

Nice church tower.

This was the area where we walked.

Duck sitting on a rock.

We only have two full days in Edinburgh, and that was one of them. We are headed into the center today. we really don't need any more than one day in the center, just to wander around and see the highlights. We're not that interested in any of the tourist attractions, and they are very expensive anyhow. We're quite happy just walking around.

So, we'll take the bus downtown. It's a fairly direct route and the stop is very close by. One way on the bus costs £2.20 ($4.07 CAD, $2.98 USD).

Under Armour Men's Sneakers. Various colors and sizes at various prices, some really cheap!

And in Canada...

  1. It looks charming and glad your rental is ok! I have Scottish ancestors (McIver clan and Burns), so I always enjoy seeing photos from that country. Would love to travel there one day. That tunnel was definitely cool!

    1. We would show pictures of our accommodation but because it is shared with the owner we prefer to not to show it but it is very modern and the only thing about the place is that our bedroom is tiny which is very difficult with opening our suitcases and storing them and they are only carryon bags.

Kevin's grandmother is also from Scotland so it is nice to see more of this country ourselves.. When we were here back in 1987 it was only for a week and we were with my cousin and her husband plus three young children so while we did get out exploring we were limited.
