We haven't seen another motorhome or campervan in probably two weeks.

We said goodbye to Valentina and her mother and headed out at around 10:30am. Made a quick grocery stop in town, and then on to Gradistea Muncelului - Cioclovina Natural Park. It was only about 60 kms, but it took over an hour.

I had read about a great overnight spot that had room for only one vehicle, so we had our fingers crossed that there was nobody already there.

But, we haven't seen another motorhome or campervan in probably two weeks.

Scenery along the way.

Traffic circle display.

More scenery.

We drove off the main highway and through a couple of small villages and then the narrow road began climbing. We arrive at the overnight spot and it was empty!

Max, parked at GPS 45.529241, 23.140674

Yep, this will do for a couple of nights!

Very few vehicles going by. Mostly locals gathering firewood and transporting sheep. One group of hikers. There are a lot of trials in the park and we are here specifically to do one hike that was recommended by our friend Gaby.

We relaxed for the afternoon and then after dinner we walked up the road a couple of kms just to get some exercise.

The view out our entrance door.

Looking down on the village of Ohaba-Ponor.

So nice that it is now light out until 8:30pm or so!

So we're walking along, and a stray dog comes towards us. He's really friendly and his tail is wagging. I couldn't help but to give him a pet. Big mistake, and I knew that. He walked with us all the way back to the motorhome where Ruth had a bone that she could give him.

Dusk in Romania.

Our hiking buddy.

Sure enough, Buddy was sleeping by our front door when we got up this morning. Pretty sure he is coming for a hike with us today!

And no, we're not keeping him. As much as we would love to, it just doesn't suit our current lifestyle to have a dog! But we'll enjoy his company while we're here.

Looks like a great day... we've got a 14 km (8.7 mile) hike planned, so we better get going!

Nice price drop on the popular RV LevelMatePRO. This thing only ever comes on sale during Prime Day or Black Friday, so this is a nice surprise. Also, the upgraded LevelMatePRO + has a $20 off coupon showing on the product page.

And in Canada...

  1. Beautiful Scenery. If you kept every Animal you made friends with you'd need Noah's Ark.
    Happy Mothers Day Ruth.
Be Safe and Enjoy your hike.

    It's about time.

    1. It is very pretty scenery but wait until you see the pictures from our hike in our next post!

You are correct, it would be very easy to keep a number of the dogs or cats that we have met along our travels but if we did that then we wouldn't have any room in the motorhome for ourselves. These animals will continue to find other people that come up into the area and who knows, maybe someone will take them home. It ends up that this handsome boy does have a home.

  2. Awww, I like your new Buddy. I completely understand that having a dog doesn't work with your traveling lifestyle. If you were just RVing in the US and Canada, it would be one thing, but flying and all the vet/vaccine requirements are too much. We flew Paisley back and forth to Mexico and Belize several times, but it was not easy, and the larger the dog, the worse the situation is. We were able to fly with her in-cabin; can't do that with a medium+ sized dog. But glad you can pal around with him for a couple of days!

    1. So did we, he was a lovely dog, we felt bad not being able to take him with us but it ends up that he does have a home of his own.

No, traveling with a dog just does not suit our traveling lifestyle. Even when we had Whiskey back in Canada and traveled with her in Canada, US and Mexico, it was great but it also lead to issues. Some places don't allow dogs on hikes, which is the case in many of the US National Parks, not wanting to leave her in the motorhome by herself on hot days, worrying about other stray dogs trying to attack her when we walked her in Mexico. Life is just much easier and less complicated when we don't have a pet. We get to enjoy so many other people's pets and strays along the way and that is enough for us.
