Camped beside the river

We got all our driving done in the morning, well before the afternoon winds picked up. Sooo much nicer driving when it's calm. Stopped in Pinedale to have breakfast and use the internet, then headed a bit further north.

We pulled in to the Warren Bridge BLM area. There are nine different free camping locations spread along the Green River over a distance of about 8 miles (13 kms).

The problem is that the road you have to follow to get to these free camping locations is very washboardy.

Mountains in the distance.

In the town of Pinedale.

You will be seeing lots of mountain photos over the next couple of weeks!

Wyoming cowboys!

The Green River.

The Green River.

8 Miles of washboard road.

We only went about 3.5 miles (5.5 kms) before we found a campsite we were happy with. Some of the sites are made for more than one unit and so we picked a single one so that we would't have to worry about someone coming in and running their generator for all hours.

Then we got the bikes off to get some exercise!

Scenic bike ride.

Moo!

Empty campsites.

The river is fairly high with spring runoff.

Stopping for a break.

Great spot for the night at GPS 43.060058, -110.085463

We did a vigorous (lots of up and down hill) bike ride for about 8 miles (13 kms) and went back to the motorhome for lunch. Had a nice relaxing afternoon... read a book, had a nap, played some backgammon.

After supper, we watched an episode of Columbo. What a great show that is. I have the entire first season (filmed in 1968) on the laptop.

Up early again this morning and making our way into Jackson.

There is some cold and wet weather heading our way. It's supposed to be downright miserable starting Saturday afternoon through Tuesday morning. They're even calling for snow!

  1. Great spot. You might think about adding a - to the longitude

  2. Glad you liked that spot! We camped with our fifth wheel a little closer to the highway, but right on the river. There was no one else around and we thought it was great! Safe travels and stay warm. If you head north of Jackson Hole, WY, there are some great dry camping spots at Gros Ventre campground, which is first come first serve and no hookups. You are almost guaranteed to see some Moose. :-) http://metamorphosisroad.blogspot.com/2015/09/grand-teton-part-2-mad-for-moose-at.html

    1. We did like and it would have been even better if we were able to get a cellular signal too, if we had we might have stayed another night. We wanted to get a site in Area 2, which I believe is where you were but it was already taken up with a couple of tenters, so we moved on to the next spot.

Sorry but at $33USD ($44.33CAD) it is just a bit too much for us to pay for a dry camping spot, although it does look like a nice spot.

    1. Then we would have been really close to you the night before when we overnighted by the Big Sandy Reservoir. :-)

  4. Once again, I am envious of your bike ride! Beautiful country. I know those hills are challenging, but you can't beat the lack of traffic. :)

    1. Yep, you would have loved the bike ride, it sure was a good one and only two vehicles passed us the whole time we were out but I tell you a couple of those uphills were really hard to do but we did them! :-)

    2. I am proud of you two! I know you love hiking, but it is good to mix it up!

    3. Thanks Emily! We want to use them more but we aren't always in an area that is good for biking, like in Mexico, although that is improving as we found this year.
